What we're about

This group is for anyone likes to travel or wants to learn about traveling. Whether you like to explore local gems, national treasures, or far off lands, we want to hear your stories. We have a variety of people such retired travelers sharing history, not-yet travelers gathering information, wanderers constantly between trips, and more! It doesn't matter whether you are a solo traveler, couple, family or friends - all are welcome!

How this group works:

• Happy Hours - Stephanie organizes monthly happy hours, generally at Bar Louie. These usually alternate between Mondays and Wednesdays since those are the times easiest to get a table for a large group. These are casual, social occasions where we swap stories, travel trips, etc and build friendships. There's no requirement to arrive on time or stay for the entire event, feel free to drop in for as long as you are interested or to bring a friend.

• Adventure Travel Trips - Kevin posts the more popular tours run by GEC Travel ( These trips are booked independently of this Meetup and include people from around the country, so the RSVP list only shows a subsection of the people on the trip. GEC has many more tours and dates available than what is posted, Kevin is just kind enough to showcase some options in travel Meetup groups to make it easier for travelers like to coordinate.

• Other events - Have a trip that you want people to join you on? Want to get a group together for a local event? If there's an event that you would like to see and run, suggest it in the Proposed section of the Meetup events. This is a collaborative group, so as long as there's someone willing to run an event, I'm willing to put it on the list. Past examples include a team for Ann Arbor Field Day and a wine dinner at a local restaurant.

Why I started this group:

I used to be a part of the Chicago Adventure Travel Club, which prompted me to finally turn my travel dreams into actions. The members had a wealth of information and were eager to share. It also introduced me to GEC Travel by having a similar model of popular trips being posted as Meetup events. Upon moving to Ann Arbor, I had few friends, Meetup had few groups, and I missed having happy hours with my old group. So, I replicated the model here and the group quickly grew!
