For the Love of Birds: Let Your Writing Soar
Fellow WOW member, Maria Ramos, is hosting our next gathering in her home adjacent to dense woods with lovely birds. This evening we will focus on what it is about our writing that enables it to soar. When are the words coming faster than your hand can move? When is the reader lost in a world that resembles a feeling instead of a thought? To set the evening's tempo, two local artists will join us -- Jo Fleming (who hosted our group on Maryland Avenue last fall) and Patrice Drago -- who will kindly share their art and show us how they portrayed the grace and beauty of birds on canvas! We will start the evening with a brief social time and then a 'free write' inspired by their work and Maria's beautiful natural scenery. For those who prefer writing beforehand -- (1) draft 500 words or less on how your perspective of an important decision you've struggled with in the past now looks different soaring above and beyondat 30,000 feet instead of up close and personal; or (2) bring a favorite essay or poem to read that makes your heart soar and tell us why. SOCIALIZING IS FOR THE BIRDS............ Maria has offered to prepare a main dish (e.g., pork roast, casserole) and has asked folks to bring a side dish (e.g., deviled eggs, salad, beans, orzo, potato, slaw, fruit salad) and finger-bite desserts. I will provide wine and sparkling water; please bring a beverage of choice if you want something else.
