What we're about

I'm creating this group to utilize meetup for any kind of event or activity that I want to do, but need more people to go do them. It's not a group that only goes to pubs or only goes dancing or is focuses on some small niche like a lot of groups on Meetup. The goal of this group is to do a variety of different things.

I was part of a Meetup like this in Toronto called the Random Activity Group and we did a lot of different events. The group grew larger and larger and I had some great experience there meeting many extraordinary people along the way.

Now I'm new to Montreal and hoping to get something similar going here. I've included some things that I did while I was in that group and some things I would like to do myself Montreal in what this Meetup is about, but I'm completely open to setting up almost any kind of event if people are interested in doing it.

Things I did mostly in Toronto
- Hosting Board Game nights every week at a cafe.
- Hosting a pool league at a pool hall every Monday.
- Learnt how to and began regularly Rock Climbing.

Cool things I did there less often.
- Learnt how to skate
- Went to movies with people
- Ate meals at interesting restaurants
- Meet for drinks and conversation
- Snowboarding/Skiing trips
- Camping trips
- Gathered to experience local events and festivals

Some people even got together to discuss current events and politics.

A few things to note about the group.
1. ) I don't really care to make this a money making venture. I would like to do either free events or events where everyone only pays for their tickets or fares at the venue. I won't make events that earn me money.
2.) I would like to do stuff with people that are relatable, hopefully having similar interests in events is sufficient to help, but for the sake of comfort I'd like the group to be mostly reasonably mature people. Probably between early or mid 20's to mid to late 30's. I certainly don't want to have events with people under the drinking age because I don't want to be indirectly responsible for underaged drinking.
3.) I want the group to be fun! I'd like to organize and host events that people really want to try or they are passionate about doing. No idea is a bad idea as long as you're interested and want to help make it happen, I'd be glad to create the event. That's about it, I'm open to questions, comments and suggestions from anyone that joins or attends any events. Let's have some great experiences together!

Lastly, I will mention that since I got to Montreal I have bene going to a Gymnastics place near Atwater market to learn some things, I may host some events there in the future to get more people involved.

Bouldering at Shakti

Shakti Rock Gym

Anyone here interested in rock climbing? Bouldering is a variation where you climb without ropes or harnesses (always at a safe distance from the ground!). As a result you don't have to go through any accreditation lessons to get started; you can just jump on the wall right away! It's one of my favorite things to do and I'd love to meet more people to climb with :) Shakti is located at the corner of St. Viateur and de Gaspe, about a 10 minute walk from either the Rosemont or Laurier metro station. I've been climbing here for roughly a year and it's been a blast. Everyone here is super friendly and helpful, no matter what your skill level. Speaking of, if you're new to climbing and feeling a little hesitant I hope you'll give it a try anyway. You'll find a physical activity that's more about using your brain and balancing your weight properly than having raw strength. I've even gotten my parents into it :P Anyway, that's enough out of me. Hope to see you there! Price: $13 for day pass + $5 for climbing shoes if you don't have your own. https://shaktirockgym.com/rates/

FREE bouldering (global climbing day) @ Bloc Shop - Hochelaga (Frontenac metro)

It's global climbing day and Bloc Shop is offering FREE bouldering for the whole day: free entrance and free shoe rental! It's the ideal moment to try out some indoor rock climbing at their Hochelaga establishment. More details about the event (FR) on their FB event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2386849858197286/ *NOTE* You will still need to sign a risk waiver to climb.

Board games @ l'Adversaire - Pub Ludique (Pie-IX metro)

l'Adversaire - Pub Ludique

Join us for some board games at l'Adversaire! The establishment opened back in mid-October 2017 and has since been a playful neighborhood pub that brings together board games (500 and growing), arcades, retro video games, food and microbrewery beers under the same roof! If you're new to board games, we'll happily teach you. *Admission fee (games)* 5$ tax included *Directions* 34 East bus (Sainte-Catherine/Letourneux stop) Pie-IX metro (12min walk) *Menu* (FR) https://adversaire.ca/menu/ Consider purchasing some food & beverages to help support the establishment!

Let's force ourselves to work on our side projects...

**UPDATE**: This meetup will merge with Les Pitonneux's Coffee & Code meetup. https://www.meetup.com/pitonneux/events/hgxrvqyzgblb/ I'll leave this page open for people to sign up because my meetup is not restricted to coding, unlike Les Pitonneux's. Do you have a side project you've been wanting to do but couldn't work up the motivation? Let's meet up and change that! This event is primarily meant to help us avoid procrastination but it could also be a way for us to learn skills from each other. Your project can be pretty much anything as long as it's not too messy/loud. Writing, drawing, and coding were what I had in mind for this meetup but don't limit yourselves to just those options. Oh and if you're coming to the meetup, also share in the comments what skills you'd like to learn and which ones you could teach :)
