Meeting Agenda:

What's New in Ambari?

Speaker

Alejandro Fernandez (Apache Ambari PMC and Committer; Senior Engineer @ Hortonworks)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stack Extensibility

Apache Ambari provides an extensible stack framework that enables developers to create their own custom stack. An Ambari stack is composed of service definitions with their own scripts to manage the lifecycle of the service components. The stack framework also supports inheritance and common service definitions for code reuse between stack vendors.

However, like any software the stack framework has had its own limitations. For example, onboarding a third-party add-on service to a stack is a tedious process and has limitations. Also vendor stack releases are tied to Ambari releases. In this talk we will discuss about these limitations and the major features and improvements in the stack framework that will be added in Ambari 2.4 release. Specifically, we will cover following new features that will improve stack extensibility: stack featurization, service-level extensions for stack advisors and upgrade packs, stack extensions and management packs.
