London Lucene Hackday for Full Fact

Full Fact, the UK's independent factchecking charity, spoke at one of our recent Meetups about their need for help building Lucene-powered automated factchecking systems. Many of us were inspired by their talk and several people offered to help on the spot. We thought the best way to bring together people to help might be to run a hackday during which we can use Lucene & Solr to build great software for Full Fact to use.

For some background you might want to read their excellent report on The State of Automated Factchecking and our blog on the event.

Facebook will be hosting at their 338 Euston Road offices - please let us know your full name and email when you sign up.

A couple of people asked me about the discounted Solr training we're trying to put together - could you contact me ASAP to let me know if you're interested? Thanks!

Hey Gerry, we'll definitely share information about the best environment to work in next time. Also I think next time we'll have *lots* more projects and smaller teams, this hackathon makes that possible! Thank you for sticking it out, it was really great to meet you. Glad you enjoyed the day :D

I'm not a search developer, but I do know about NLP / text analytics. Will this be in scope (both conceptually and practically)?

Fascinating topic, and I have plenty of ideas around it, but I have to be elsewhere, and will have to free up a place :)

Can't go! Sorry guys :( love the initiative though! Please shout if any projects make it up on GitHub after the event that are possible to contribute to, to help the cause :)

Sorry to hear that! We'll certainly be putting something up on Github and writing about what we get up to.
