Huge steps for Apache NiFi - Talks on NiFi in Finance and Powerful New Features

Details

• What we'll do
There will be presentations by Software Engineering leaders from a couple Fortune 100 Financial Institutions and members of the Apache NiFi PMC and Community. Talks will cover use cases in cybersecurity, major new features released, and provide for open group discussion on key needs and development areas going forward.

Robert Bruno is an Executive Director with Morgan Stanley. He works on Morgan Stanley’s Threat Hunt Team as a core developer. The Threat Hunt Team heavily utilizes open source projects throughout their platform. One of Robert’s responsibilities is running dataflow for the team. He uses Apache NiFi to achieve a flexible, scalable solution to ensure the Threat Hunt Team is able to receive all necessary data in a timely manner. Robert enjoys working with new exciting open source technologies along with developing analytics, automation tools, and anything else that the team needs. When not behind the keyboard, he likes driving a slow car (i.e. his Miata) fast on the race track. Robert’s talk with go over how NiFi fits into the Threat Hunt platform, along with discussing new features which he shaped with the Apache NiFi team. He is now heavily utilizing these features in his flows to achieve even greater performance and flexibility.

Born in the era of great music, Marc is best known for his ability to cause "Hello World" to segfault. He works on distributed systems with Apache Accumulo and Apache NiFi, but don't let his charm deceive you. At his heart he is still just a de-referenced null pointer. In fact, this biography is better told via assembly language:
marc(int*):
push rbp
mov rbp, rsp
mov QWORD PTR [rbp-8], rdi
mov QWORD PTR [rbp-8], 0
mov rax, QWORD PTR [rbp-8]
mov eax, DWORD PTR [rax]
pop rbp
ret

Marc will begin the discussion by highlighting Apache NiFi MiNiFi C++ and set the stage for IoT development. We’ll take a deep dive into how Apache MiNiFi C++ works with edge devices to bring data management and flow to a broader range of systems across an infrastructure. We’ll demonstrate MiNiFi C++ on a robotic vehicle sending images to a NiFi instance as it drives around, being controlled from a base station. Marc will then focus on how Apache MiNiFi C++ compliments Apache NiFi using a common set of use cases presented by customers and users.

Domenic Puzio is a Data Engineer with Capital One. He is a core developer of Purple Rain – a platform for ingesting, processing, and analyzing Capital One's cyber-security data sources. Currently, his focus is on the creation and productionization of machine learning models that provide insights for the detection of malware, phishing, and other malicious activity. Working with open-source tools and building large-scale applications on AWS make him happy. He is a contributor to two Apache projects, and his interests include the Lord of the Rings and deep learning. Domenic will talk about how NiFi fits into the Purple Rain pipeline, how his team scaled it to process 7TB a day, and how these experiences helped to shape NiFi’s roadmap.

Bryan Bende and Kevin Doran will provide an overview Registry—a subproject of Apache NiFi—as a complementary application that provides a central location for storage and management of shared resources across one or more instances of NiFi and/or MiNiFi.
