AMC-DV OPEN HOUSE (aka New Members Social)

  • Feb 26, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This event (free) is particularly for YOU if you do NOT know any of the followings offered by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC):

- Multiple days/weeks trip outside the region or at overseas.

- Abundant of weekend trips using the club lodges/huts and the campsites

- For-fun or a skill-acquiring trips for Family and Teens of various ages

- Introductory or training sessions for backpacking, paddling, safety (water and land), and environmental conservation.

- Indoor and outdoor social functions

This is also a very good opportunity for who has joined the club, but has been hesitant to participate on a trip. You will not be alone because you will meet the people alike.

The AMC Delaware Valley (DV) chapter is offering an Open House event (aka New Members Social) between 7:00 and 9:00 PM on February 26 (Tue) at the Plymouth Meeting Friends’ Meetinghouse on Germantown Ave. (GPS coordinate: [masked],[masked]). Everyone (new, old, non - members and their friends) is welcome! The event kicks offs at 7:00 PM, but you can get the most of it if you can arrive within the first one hour. There are opportunities to talk directly with the activity leaders for their plans or your concerns. Light snacks and refreshments will be served. A door prize available. No solicitation!.

By the way, did you know that the AMC DV chapter is proudly run 100% by the member volunteers? So, we are always looking for the people who have new and creative idea and skills, or anybody interested in learning new things. You can be the next leader/event organizer to make our club more attractive, too.

* Event will be cancelled in case of the bad weather or uncontrolled circumstances. The cancellation will be posted on this site.

Disclaimer: Appalachian Mountain Club is a fee membership club, and the some amount of which are used to educate the importance of environment to the public or to conserve the nature. This Meetup web site is enabled by the fees paid by the members.

Despite of severe rain prediction in the evening, about 20 participants-- the levels were from "ready to go to the skilled and strenuous trips" to "start or re-start outdoor activity"-- came to the event. Thank you for the outdoor fellows who came last night. I hope everyone got home safely. We believe that you enjoyed the time and learned something new(and interesting to you) about us and each other. Very active Q & A session. We change the format slightly and it went well, yet I noticed that there is a room for improvement for the next occasion. Any way, this is the rule of thumb; Contact the leader as soon as possible if you find something interesting or attractive and you want to be comfortable in participating. See you soon.

Hi, Gene, Cheryl, Andrew, and those of you who are interested in the event, but cannot make it on 2/26 (T).

We have been considering holding a similar opportunity in a different area, but the major obstacle is to gather the main organizers/leaders for another occasion. Because we are all volunteers. But, there are several chances to know about the club. We usually set an informational table at the Valley Forge Park on the National Trails Day (6/1/2013), and the Public Lands Day(9/28/2013). Stop by at the table before our club's trail maintenance project or a hike.

The Leigh Valley monthly meeting is a good opportunity, too. The purpose of the meeting is the picture viewing, which is open to the public. But, you can contact Lennie, the organizer of the meeting, before hand. She can surely provide you with some brochures and have a very experienced leader to explain about the club, if she is not available.

Anyway, come out and ask the leaders and the AMC participants.
