Application of Artificial Intelligence to an old-fashioned industry: how Deep Learning is changing the car insurance industry
Giovanni Lotti
Artificial intelligence has been a very popular expression for the last 10 years, but disruptive commercial applications of it are not as common. Tractable is taking a very pragmatic approach to AI and has been working to solve real commercial problems with deep learning technology. Car insurance is a deeply flawed industry, and Tractable is disrupting its problems through deep learning technology.
Gio is currently the Head of People Operations at Tractable. MSc from the LSE, started off as a consultant at Bain & Company, then moved into executive search within the tech industry. Built leadership teams for the most successful start-ups in Europe and the US.
A working introduction to Symbolic AI
Martin Lambert
Historically there have been two main AI research tracks - symbolic AI (logic) and sub-symbolic AI (machine learning, neural networks, etc.) - but the recent resurgence of interest in AI is focused almost exclusively on machine learning. Why? Human intelligence combines conscious logical reasoning with subconscious pattern recognition. Are we missing even bigger AI opportunities by overlooking symbolic AI? Internet-scale computing and Big Data breathed new intelligence into machine learning - can it do the same for symbolic AI? Martin Lambert's presentation provides a working introduction to symbolic AI, contrasts its capabilities with machine learning, and demonstrates a modern Internet-enabled fault diagnostic symbolic AI software-as-a-service.
Martin Lambert has a DPhil from Oxford University, was founder/CTO of information security startup SealedMedia (acquired by Oracle) and teaches ungrateful AIs at exvisory.com.
Creative Applications of Machine Learning
Luba Elliott
Over the past couple of years, there has been increasing interest in applying the latest advances in machine learning to creative projects in art, music, film, theatre and beyond. From Google's DeepDream and style transfer to the world's first computer-generated musical playing in London's West End, more and more creative AI projects are moving beyond the world of research and academia into the public eye. This talk will give an overview of creative projects using RNNs, ConvNets, GANs and other models.
Luba Elliott is a curator, artist and researcher looking at artificial intelligence in the creative industries. Prior to that, she worked in venture capital and art startups.
