  • RSVPs are important, its how we know how much food and beer we need.
  • Please forward this to anyone you think will be interested!

~ ArchCamp! ~

A Bay-area unconference about system architecture, scaling patterns, and specific technologiesused to build kick-ass systems.

~ Who? ~

You! ArchCamp is for hackers, by hackers. All sessions will be lead by participants (that’s you again), so if you’re a business guy or tech recruiter, sit this one out. (to clarify, a hacker is anybody who produces code or architecture)

~ How will we be running our unconference? ~
  • 3 sessions at a time by 3 three time slots.
  • Time slots are 25 minutes.
  • The people who come are the best people who could have come.
  • Whatever happens is the only thing that could have happened. It starts when it starts.
  • It’s over when it’s over.
  • The Law of Two Feet (“If you are not learning or contributing to a talk or presentation or discussion it is your responsibility to find somewhere where you can contribute or learn”).

~ Brainstorming ~

This time we are trying to do a little pre-brainstorming on the planning wiki (requires a git-hub account to edit, but surely you already have one).

Please propose session ideas! The more discussion we have in advance the better the event will be. Also we are doing lightning talks. The only requirements are 1) keep it technical and interesting 2) keep it under 5 minutes.

again, planning wiki here

~ What is an Unconference? ~

An unconference is a participant-driven meeting. This means we avoid high fees, sponsored presentations (and sales pitches), and a top-down organization.

Unconfrences are self organizing and organic, but there is still a schedule. Unlike a traditional conference this schedule starts out blank. The schedule is filled in through a scrum-like process of people proposing subjects, voting on them, and placing them on the schedule. This usually takes 15 minutes. The sessions are moderated by those who proposed them.

~ Summary! ~
