This Wild Stew event will consist of trainings we are putting together to teach volunteers how to conduct surveys for Opportunities for Solitude. Opportunities for Solitude is one of the criteria needed for an area to become designated Wilderness. Participants need to be prepared to hike up to approx. 4 miles on both Saturday and Sunday. We will be facilitating a training at the TH on both Saturday and Sunday for those wanting to participate for a single day. We will be meeting at Peralta trailhead on Saturday and Sunday morning at 8 am. Once everyone has arrived we will find a shady spot and discuss the ins and outs of Solitude monitoring and a few other tasks associated with this project. From there participants will hike out along the Peralta trail towards Freemont Saddle on Saturday and Trail 104 to Miners Needle on Sunday.
Participants need to be prepared to hike up to approx. 4 miles along maintained FS trails carrying day packs with lunch, water, and snacks for the day. AWC will be car camping in the area on Saturday night, We hope you can join us.
AWC will NOT be providing dinner on this trip. Please bring your own water and if you need more AWC will have water jugs available for you. All necessary tools and training will be provided. You must wear closed toed shoes.
