Anyone have a suggestion on how to fix a slow site? I installed the Divi theme and the load time is awful. PageSpeedGrader said 27 secs. I am using Cloudflare (cdn) W3 Total Cache, WP-Optimize and WP-Smush it plugins. Those cut about 10 secs off load time. Still terrible at 17 secs. I can hardly work on my site it's so slow. All suggestions are welcome! Thanks so much.

April Holle in her excellent Google Analytics talk, mentioned is a web bot that is taking over her Analytics results. Turns out they are Bad Bad Bad. Semalt is a hacker network, posing as an SEO service. Here's two ways to block, one from Google Analytics, one from seeing anything on your site.

FYI - here's the blog post I referenced regarding Shared Hosting vs. Managed Hosting vs. Dedicated Hosting

Thank you Brandy ... I found your article helpful. Can you suggest a Shared Hosting group that you find is straight forward with costs and offers solid support, and has all the bare necessities one would want from a simple website.

Hi Paula - my personal recommendation for Shared Hosting is SiteGround. You can find a link to their site at the bottom of my article.

My first meeting was Thursday. Very organized and informative. Still a tad over my head, but found the information useful. I am still at the beginning stages for setting up my website on Wordpress. I am struggling with what Hosting to use. There seems to be pros and cons for the many that are out there. I am not one for underlying costs that come out later or for those that don't offer solid customer support. Can you suggest any?

This was a great meeting. I learned many new things that I am putting use right away. The only down side to the night was driving home to Tempe in a bad storm...

Seth, I meant to ask you before I left last night, does Google Domains give you invite codes that you can send out to others? I registered for the beta I think the day after they made the announcement in June but so far I haven't heard anything back.

I have about 20 domains registered with NameCheap (I ditched GoDaddy about 5 years ago when they started over charging for private whois). I would like to tinker around with Google Domains and see if they might be my next move. If you do get invites and you wouldn't mind sharing one with me, I have no problem re-sharing my invites with anyone in the group that is interested.

A great question. No they don't. The "invite only" is google invites only. They do have a request form though:

That's where I originally signed up to be wait listed. Hopefully this invite only Google service takes off and is supported better than Orkut was. What is Orkut some of you may ask? My point exactly :-) I just happened to notice Google pulled the plug completely on it next month:

Hey Seth, I meant to catch up to you last night, but got sidetracked. Are you avail for WP consulting/help on an hourly? If so, I need some help on a wp site I'm working on now. You can contact me at [masked]. Thanks.

Was the meeting filmed? If yes, would someone post the link. Thanks!

No we did not. On top of not having anyone available to record, our internet access was awful for some reason.

    Another great meeting, as always.
Full of great info and witty banter.

I meant to mention that the organizer of the WordPress group in Detroit I go to (right across the Ambassador Bridge from me in Canada) is Deborah Edwards-Onoro who is also a member here. She will be happy to know there is a potential WordCamp 2015 as she had mentioned to me there may not be one next year.

Was nice to meet fellow NerdPress people at the INTERNATIONAL Arizona WordPress Group.

It is possible to remove a menu bar from one (1) WordPress Twenty Twelve Themed Website Page? I want to remove the menu bar from one (1) page; however, I want to keep the menu bar on the remaining pages.

    August 18, 2014

    • Justin T.

What type of page do you want to remove the menu from (default page, archive, category, etc)? If it's a simple page, you can use the is_page() function in the header.php file.

You can wrap the wp_nav_menu() function in an if statement that will render the menu when the statement matches true.

You can read more about is_page() at http://codex.wordpres...

I'll be at the meetup this week and you can ask me more if needed.
