Jan 28: JavaScript, how we got to where we are now and where we’re going (Brad Westfall)

Dear WordPress Developers,

Please join us for this month's Advanced Developer Meetup on Thursday, January 28 from 7-9pm at the Skyhook offices. This meetup is held on the 4th Thursday of the month at the same location.

The vision for this meetup is to provide local WP developers with the education, support and networking opportunities we need to be successful in our careers. Each month we’ll bring in one or two really solid speakers to provide mind-blowing content, bookended with networking and sharing/hacking time. Oh, and our sponsors will be providing food & drinks as well.

This month’s lineup:

JavaScript, how we got to where we are now and where we’re going - Brad Westfall (AZPixels.com)
Let's have a candid (and maybe opinionated) conversation about how JavaScript has evolved to be what it is today and where I believe it's going in the future. We'll talk frameworks and issues with JS. We'll talk about the "monolithic" conversation of 2015 and how React may help or hurt. Is JavaScript "Object Oriented"? What is ES6 and ES2015? What exactly is Node? What is io.js? Why is jQuery now the "black sheep" of the community? We'll cover lots of things including all your questions.

Brad Westfall is a full-stack web developer and the owner of AZPixels.com. He has been working in the web design and development field since 1999 and spends most of his development time specializing in Front-End Development building web applications. He enjoys consulting on matters of front-end web development's best practices, especially CSS and JavaScript. He loves getting involved with his local development community and has experience teaching at a web development bootcamp.

Unconference
Following the presentation, we’ll brainstorm topics that are of interest to the meetup and explore further presentation & discussion. If a topic is particularly interesting, we’ll be looking for someone who can present on it in the following month.

Due to space constraints and a desire to keep the event intimate, registration has been limited to 40 attendees. Please register only if you are really coming so that we can keep seats open for others!

For those who can’t attend in-person, we’ll be livestreaming/recording the event through the Arizona WordPress Group website and YouTube.

For more information, or to RSVP for the event, please visit:

Hope to see you there!
