About us

******
For anyone who doesn’t already know, the founder of this group, Gary Sessums, sadly passed away earlier this year – he was a fixture of the local running and social community, and will be greatly, greatly missed.

New leadership has stepped up, and we intend to keep his legacy in the local running community alive - as part of maintaining the Meetup.com groups he led we’re going to be consolidating a couple. Gary maintained both this group, the Arlington Running Club (https://www.meetup.com/arlingtonrunningclub/), and also the Shirlington Running Group (https://www.meetup.com/shirlingtonrunninggroup/). In recent years, all the Arlington Running Club runs were in Shirlington, in conjunction with the Shirlington Running Group - a lot of people didn't realize there were technically two separate groups.

So to be efficient with our Meetup presence and resources (including concerning Meetup fees), we’re looking to merge the Arlington Running Club into the Shirlington Running Group over the next few weeks or months and ultimately close out the Arlington Running Club meetup. We'll be reaching out further as this process goes on, and please feel free to hop onto the ARC Meetup site and save any photos or such from runs past!

Please let me know any questions (I'm at [jderricknc@aol.com](mailto:jderricknc@aol.com)), and if you’re not already a member of the Shirlington Running Group at https://www.meetup.com/shirlingtonrunninggroup/ (which does all the same runs!), please hop on over there and join for free!

Thanks, and Happy Trails! - John Derrick

Join members of the Arlington Running Club for our weekly Run 'n' Quaff, a non-competitive 5-K run followed by the quaffing of cold frosty beverages at a local pub. Our runners are of all abilities and age ranges from the beginning runner/walker up through marathoners. Get motivated about running, expand your circle of friends, and have fun.

Please note, concerning risks and a general waiver, “I know that running, walking or volunteering to work in club races are potentially hazardous activities. I understand that I should not run, walk or otherwise participate in other club activities of any kind unless I am medically able and properly trained.  I understand that my participation in any club activity is wholly voluntary, and agree that I will not participate in any club sponsored activity unless I am medically able to do so.  I agree to abide by any decision of a club official relative to my ability to safely complete the activity. I further agree to assume all risks associated with running, walking, and volunteering to work in club activities or otherwise participating in any club activities, including, but not limited to, falls, injuries, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat and/or humidity, the conditions of the road and traffic on the course, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of your acceptance of my application for membership, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the club, their officers, organizers, representatives, successors, and sponsors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in these club activities even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness, or gross negligence or any other actions or omissions on the part of the club, their officers,  organizers, representatives, successors, and sponsors or other persons named in this waiver.”
