What we're about

Hello Portlanders! Art Geeks is a new meetup designed for people who want to check out various kinds of self-consciously 'artsy' events, mostly in the evening.

Although we are proud to be art 'geeks,' we are definitely not art 'snobs'-- and so you'll find us consuming kitsch just as much as the refined, the gritty as well as the classical.

Our events focus on appreciating all different kinds of art production rather than making it, yet all kinds of art hobbyists and professionals should also find interest here.

Many of our gatherings will require you to buy a ticket of some kind, and perhaps even in advance. Almost always, there will be the option to socialize before, during or after whatever art geeky event we attend.

We extend a particular welcome to people who are new to town, but old-schoolers are also warmly welcomed. About once a week, we'll be heading out to some kind of painfully artsy event.

Look for activities like art openings, indie films, dance/theater/performance, live music, and late night dancing at clubs, festivals, and other random art geeky happenings.

Our gatherings will be on the smaller side, under 10 people, so that we can have intelligent conversations as we appreciate the cultural landscape together.

The event goes from 1-5 and is open to all ages.

Feel free to bring snacks or drinks to share but don't worry if you can't. Bring along something to lay on the grass to sit or a chair.

Alcohol should be totally fine seeing as most of the people on that mountain will be drunk.

If you're driving, it's best to search for a spot in the neighborhoods that surround the mountain and walk up.

I'll make a post in the comment section 15 minutes prior to event once I find us a spot. It will likely be more dependent on the area having adequate shade than it's proximity to the race track.

I will bring along an orange safety cone as a designated marker of where the group will be and along with pictures and a more descriptive post of our location, you shouldn't have that hard of a time finding us.

This event is being cross promoted in 8 other groups: PDX Anything Goes!, /R/ Portland meetup, Portland travel buddies and fun events, Portland travel fun and activities, Badass happy hour mofos, The Beervana Experience, Young Professionals Social Club, and Uniquely Portland.

As usual, let's meet at about 5:45 and then at about 6 wander off together for art gallery shenanigans. What do you say? I'll attempt to be organized. We often go for Sushi or burgers afterward

The art galleries in downtown Portland, Oregon, invite you to join them on the "First Thursday" of every month for an evening of art, wine and music.
