What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
This month we will read and then meet to discuss Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. This monthly discussion with coffee focuses on shorter fiction (short stories or novellas) in alternative genres such as Gothic, Weird fiction, Horror, Steampunck and Science fiction, with authors such as: Edger Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft and Flannery O’Conner. We will attempt to keep readings free or low cost. Attend to discuss monthly reading or just to learn about what you haven't read yet.
Please note the new starting location at The Armory. As usual, let's meet at about 5:45 and then at about 6 wander off together for art gallery shenanigans. What do you say? I'll attempt to be organized. We often go for Sushi or burgers afterward The art galleries in downtown Portland, Oregon, invite you to join them on the "First Thursday" of every month for an evening of art, wine and music. Walk from gallery to gallery to view all of the new art exhibits. Generally the hours are 6pm to 9pm, but please check each gallery's website for more information and to view all the artists works that they represent. You can print a map. We will have a list of galleries we will be visiting.
First Friday is the east side's monthly art gallery event. We'll meet at the Butters Gallery (next to Stark's Vacuum Cleaners) and head out at ~6:30 to other galleries in the inner east side within walking distance. The galleries on the east side are more geographically spread out than those in the Pearl for First Thursday, so dress in comfortable shoes and for the weather. You can leave the walk early at any time. Gallery List (photo of map to be added at later date).
