Hi everyone,
I hope you’re getting as excited as I am for our trip! I couldn’t wait and went up last weekend to take a peek and I can tell you that the entire valley looks SPECTACULAR! It’s about as green and lush as I’ve ever seen it. The lake level is still quite low but with all the rain this week and more storms to come, that may change quickly. I’ve posted a few photos from the weekend to the photo gallery (https://www.meetup.com/Art-of-Seeing-Photography-Adventures/photos/27329578/) for this event. Please take a look. Also, I will be sending out some materials in about a week to the registered attendees to help you prepare. Keep an eye on your email.
Cheers,
- Ken
Photography, Friends, Camping, Vineyards & the Milky Way! If you think these sound like the ingredients for a great weekend, join us for our first photography camping trip at Lake Cachuma, Feb 24-26, 2017.

The Santa Ynez Valley, just north of Santa Barbara is a lush paradise for just a few weeks each year. We’ve timed our visit to catch the peak of the greenness as well as the darkest skies of the month to make the most of the many photo opportunities. These include the lake itself, dozens of vineyards/wineries, ranches, landscapes, and wildlife (especially birds). If we are lucky, we might spot one of the bald eagles that call Cachuma their winter home. After dark, we will turn our eyes to the sky to capture the stars with our cameras. We’ve reserved a lakeside group campsite away from the main campground which should make a great base for day and night photography.
Click here (http://artofseeing.com/cachuma-lake-gallery) to see some examples of what this area looks like in early Spring and the amazing photography possibilities it has to offer. Please note that this event is not a traditional instructional workshop. Ken Lee knows this area well and will lead group tours each day to some of his favorite photo locations. You are welcome to stay with the main group or break off and explore on your own. We will provide maps and suggestions for additional photo opportunities throughout the valley. We will regroup at the campsite each evening for dinner, drinks and stories of our adventures. Ken will also provide a presentation on the basics of night photography (Milky Way, Star Trails) and be available throughout the weekend to answer any questions you have. Also, many of the members of this group are amazingly knowledgeable and accomplished photographers and most will not bite (hard). If you are a novice you should take advantage of this resource by asking questions. The cost for this event is $75, and includes: camping for the weekend, parking, and photo tour/instruction. You provide your own food, photo equipment and camping gear.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Parking is first come first serve, and is limited to 15 vehicles at the site, so we HIGHLY encourage carpooling if it’s an option for you! There is also an overflow lot, but parking there is an additional $30 per night per vehicle.
