Lecture by Deborah Quinn-Munson The Importance of Composition
• What we'll do Lecture by Deborah Quinn-Munson The Importance of Composition Details Thursday, March 22, 2018 Reception at 5 p.m. Lecture at 6 p.m. $15 for both. Limited Seating In simple terms, “Composition is the arrangement of unequal things”, according to John Ruskin, English writer and artist. Deborah Quinn-Monson will expand on this idea by breaking down the painting process into three basic elements – shape, value and color. She will discuss her unique approach to design and composition, which centers on the study of the relationship of large shapes to small, light value to dark, and warm color to cool color. Deborah Quinn-Monson will speak about her work as it has developed over the years and the thread –her “arrangements” - that connect four decades of painting in various mediums and subject matter. “No matter how skillful the technique, no matter how inventive the style, a successful painting ultimately depends on composition and design.” -Duane Wakeham About the Artist Evoking memories, the paintings of Deborah Quinn-Munson bring us to serene and restful places with distant horizons and peaceful surroundings. Loving bold color and energetic brush strokes, Quinn-Munson explores the contrast between nature’s strength and its more gentle side. “Capturing a scene’s quiet beauty disturbed only by a breeze or a few clouds contrasts with the spirited making of a painting.” Quinn-Munson earned Master designation in the International Association of Pastel Societies and was awarded Prix de Pastel in the 27th Juried Exhibition. She is also a member of the Salmagundi Club, the Copley Society of Art, Oil Painters of America and is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. After attending De Cordova Museum School, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of New Hampshire, a Master of Arts and Liberal Studies at Wesleyan University, and attended Lyme Academy of Art. • What to bring • Important to know
