What we're about
Upcoming events (4+)
During this event, we'll learn how to analyze and talk about Surrealist art!
This event is the first lesson in a four-part series, during which we explore different facets of Surrealism, from its origins in the whimsical Dada movement to the influence of Sigmund Freud, and the artwork created by women and nonbinary artists. Artists include: Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dalí, Leonora Carrington, and many more! Each session stands alone, so feel free to attend one or multiple.
What's very special about this event, is that it is not just an art history lesson, but an opportunity to develop skills in discussing and analyzing artworks. We will meet in a small group (up to ~10 people) so that we can keep the conversation flowing and so that everyone can participate.
The lesson is led with Chloe Hyman, who studied Surrealist art at Tufts University in Boston and Courtauld Institute in London. We look forward to meeting other New York creatives and hearing your thoughts on Surrealism! No prior knowledge needed to participate!
Come on your own or with friends. Vaccination is required to participate.
This is the first lesson in a four-part series, during which you'll learn how artists throughout history have used collage to capture trends in thought and style during their time. Then, you'll practice their techniques and develop the tools you need to express yourself through collage.
During the first lesson (Sept 26), we'll focus on Surrealist Collage. You'll learn how Surrealist artists created dream-like works by using collage — then create your own fantasy work, incorporating vintage magazines, paint and other mixed-media materials.
This series is led with collage artist Deming King Harriman, whose work draws from mythology and folklore to create fantastical characters, expressed in a manner that indulges in wonder and storytelling.
We'll be keeping this lesson intimate (up to ~10 people), so that we'll all have a chance to interact with the instructor and one another. Collage materials, including wood boards, vintage magazines, glue, mod podge, patterned paper, colored paper, paint, brushes etc. are included in the price. Proof of vaccination is required to participate.
This weekend, bring your creative style to the next level!

You will learn how to use basic leather crafting materials and use a sewing machine. These skills will all culminate into allowing you to become a confident beginner purse maker and leather worker!
This lesson is led with Madeline Gough, an up-and-coming, Brooklyn-based footwear and purse designer.
