What we're about

The Ashburn Boardgame Meetup meets regularly on the first Thursday night of every month. We also hold an all-day event once a quarter. We welcome any and all, young, old, and in-between to both events, whether you're from the Ashburn/Leesburg/Landsdowne/Sterling area, or from farther away.

Our Thursday night games tend to the shorter games (1-2 hours). The all-day event typically sees longer (4+ hours) games. In both cases, the preference is on "casual strategy" games over wargames, or the traditional family boardgames.

Chez Turtle Weekly Games Night - ON HOLD DUE TO COVID-19

Location visible to members

This is our weekly Board Games night at our house in Ashburn. We have been hosing this event for over 18 years now. Always interested in finding new people who would like to attend. Information is also posted frequently on FaceBook and most people RSVP on FB, not here. So if you don't see any RSVPs on Meetup, it does NOT mean that no one is coming! FB: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ChezTurtle/ Here is a Google "My Maps" that shows the area around Chez Turtle. It shows the best gate to enter the community, the good places to park, etc. http://g.co/maps/9vjkq In order to gain entry into the development you need to send either your name or your name and email address to [masked]. That way I can add you to the guest list and/or send you a QR code. The name on the guest list will allow you to come in the front gate by telling the gate guard "Games Night" and giving him/her your name. Please note on the google maps above where the front gate is located. The QR code will allow you to "scan" yourself in via smartphone or printout through the back gate which is closer to the house. If you have any questions about this, please contact Becky at [masked]. Doors technically open at 7, but most people start showing up around 7:30 or so. Bring your dinner and sit down with us for a meal. Dinner is between 7 and 8, then the kitchen table turns into a games table. Games can start as people show up. When we have 4 people, we can start a game. If you show up after 8:15 or so, you may end up waiting a while for the first round of games to end so you can fit into a game. What do you feel like playing? Suggest a game. No really, what do you play? Manhattan Project, Yokahama, Fleet: The Dice Game, Teotihuacan, Imperial Settlers, Port Royal, Dominion, Power Grid, Pirate's Cove, Battlestar Galactica, To Court The King, Ticket to Ride, Fun Factory, Azul, Kingsburg, Colony, Risk Legacy, Tikal, 7 Wonders, Wingspan, Ascension, Settlers of Cataan, Hansa Teutonica, Welcome To..., Istanbul, Tigris & Euphrates, Transforming Mars, World's Fair, Pandemic, Bunny Kingdom, Caverna, Clank, Clank in Space, Star Munchkin, Space Base, El Grande, Arkham Horror, Icehouse, Segrada, Tomb, Castle, Democrazy, Dice Forge, Ivanhoe, Fluxx, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc What are "fluffy" and "crunchy" games? Fluffy: social, somewhat light hearted, fun, less math, less strategy, cooperative. GREAT for new people or people who don't normally consider themselves "gamers". IE "fluffy bunny" games, like "fluffy bunny pagans" or something. Good examples: Apples to Apples, Uno, Guillotine. Crunchy: strategic, serious, more math, competitive. For people who are into gaming and want more "kill your neighbor" kinda games. IE "something to crunch your teeth into", meaning substantial. Good examples: Tigris and Euphrates, Teotihuacan, Tikal, Risk. You are welcome to bring food, snacks, beverages, etc. One of the hosts, and at least one of our guests, is limited to gluten free foods. You don't have to bring gluten free, but if you do, it will be appreciated. Wine and cider are popular with our guests, beer is not. Fresh fruits/veggies are also usually a big hit, as is chocolate! :) Parking Reminder: Park in the marked spaces if you intend to stay past 1am. Park on the side of the street that does not have no parking signs if you do park on the street.

Quarterly Game Day

Ashburn Masonic Lodge

$5.00

Come one, come all, to the Ashburn-Sterling Boardgame Meetup Quarterly Game Day! You don't have to have attended one of our monthly meetings to come, just have an enthusiasm to play boardgames. Our monthly Thursday nights tend to focus on shorter games (no more than 2 hours). The Quarterly is about playing more games, playing longer games, and having a good time while doing it. The event starts at Noon. It lasts until Midnight, though that's not a hard time limit. As a practical matter, please don't start a new game after 11:30, or one that won't finish until significantly after midnight. Admission is $5 for the entire day. We'll also be selling food and drink throughout the day. These proceeds go to our building's host's College Scholarship Fund (Ashburn-Sterling AF&AM #288). Generally, the quarterly game days are very lightly themed. * January: New Games (show off what you got over the holidays!) * April: Spring Cleaning (we'll have a little bazzaar/trading room) * July: The Fourth! * October: Halloween (horror and survival games) If you have any comments, suggestions, recommendations, or requests, please contact me.
