What weβre about
Hey there, and welcome to the Asian Support Network! We are a small group of Asians from all over the world searching for human-connection and a sense of community. Inclusion is one of our most important values, and we're always looking to add to the diversity of our community. Whether you're from New York City where we're based, or from another state, or even another country, we welcome all Asians to join our group, get to know us, and help us make our virtual community even better!
If it's your first time here, let me show you around! :)
Our Mission
***
The mission of this group is to help people of all ages, and backgrounds (but particularly those who identify as Asian) to meet new friends and develop deeper connections with eachother across all cities and corners of the globe.
But Why?
***
Ever notice how hard it is to make friends and meet like-minded people as an adult?Β We are living in a time when people have never more connected. And yet, feelings of social isolation are on the rise.Β Given what's going on in the world right now, we believe it's more important than ever to find ways to provide support and a sense of belonging to those who are struggling to make genuine human connections right now (which is pretty much everyone).
What To Expect From Your First Meetup
***
For remote discussion meetups on Zoom, we usually start with introductions, and then use breakout rooms to split people into groups of about 4 people. We try to give everyone a chance to both speak and listen, and we also try to scramble the breakout rooms a few times during the night so you get to meet more people.
For remote game nights, we usually start with introductions, and then play games together virtually over Zoom. If there are too many people, we may split the room up here as well. It's a fun way to break the ice, and get to know each other naturally.
For in-person meetups, coordinate with the Event Host to make sure you know where to meet us and what to do. You can use meetup.com to message us and ask us questions.
If after your first meeting you enjoyed hanging out with us, and are hungry for more, you'll be invited to our private Discord server where you can explore our interest groups, connect with people 1:1, and gain access to our numerous private events held throughout the week that are not advertised on meetup.
I'm not Asian, can I join?
***
At ASN, we often discuss sensitive Asian identity issues, and aim to create a safe space for discussion. For this reason, we cannot accept any non-Asians into the group. To be accepted, you must not only identify as Asian, but be able to convince a room full of fellow Asians that you are one of them and on their side. If you have a special circumstance, please explain so in the member application.
I'm not from New York, can I join?
***
We're based in New York City, and we do have some local in-person meetups. That being said, we also have a sizable number of members from different states and even different countries, and we have frequent and regular remote meetups and activities. So the answer is yes!
Sounds Great! Where Do I Sign Up?
***
You can submit a request to join our group on meetup.com. Once you're accepted, RSVP to one of our events. We hope to see you there!

πΌπ Singing Team Interest Meeting (Holiday Songs)
Columbus Circle, New York, NY, US**NOTE: I will be DMing each member who RSVPs individually with additional information about the practice location, and the music we are learning. Please check your DMs!
Hi there! π Do you love to sing, but only sing in the shower πΏ, when you're alone, or in Karaoke π€ ? Have you thought about getting singing lessons (or maybe you've taken some), but they're getting kinda expensive π°? Do you just need an excuse to sing, or want to make other musical friends? π΅ ASN is recruiting new members for its singing team. We do both acapella songs, and songs with musical accompaniment, so we are looking for singers of all voice types. π
You don't need to know how to read music πΌ or be an especially amazing singer. πΆ We are an amateur group with people who are passionate about singing, have a strong desire to improve, and want to make more musical friends in a casual judgement free environment! Everyone is always learning and improving and that's ok! π To get the most out of the experience, you should also be willing to study and learn music at home. We will provide resources to help with this as well! π
The types of arrangements we typically sing are arranged into an SATB format (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). You can google these terms and figure out which voice type is most suitable for you.
This week, we're gearing up for the holiday season! Here's a preview of one of the songs we'll be singing for the Holidays!
