Interested in learning what the Bible has to say about current cultural issues? Want to know about the Christian answer to questions being raised by society? Fascinated by the deeper things of philosophy and theology? You are invited to come discuss relevant and controversial subjects in a group setting (Barnes & Noble Cafe on Touhy in Skokie). You are welcome, regardless of your religious, un-religious or spiritual background. We'll dig into various topics and hear them addressed from a Christian perspective. At each gathering there will be a brief teaching from pastor Joel Settecase followed by a time of Q&A and discussion, when you can ask any question you have. Some of the topics we may cover include: transgenderism, marriage and sexuality, the afterlife, spirituality, relationships, the church, world religions, evolution, why should we think we can know anything (epistemology), and prayer. This discussion group is open to folks from every religion. The main teacher is Joel Settecase, who is one of the pastors at Park Community Church, on the Northwest Side of Chicago. NOTE: Joel does not claim to have answers to every question, but he loves talking about these topics, seeking for answers and interacting with others' points of view. Some future topics: 1. Truth - Why should we think we can know anything at all? Do science and faith conflict? 2. Existence - Where did we come from, and what does it mean to be human? 3. Meaning - What makes life worth living? 4. Morality - How can we know right from wrong? What's wrong with the world? 5. Love - How should we think about relationships? Marriage? Sexuality? 6. Jesus - Who was He, and why should we care? 7. Spirituality - Can you be spiritual but not religious? 8. Free will - Are people truly free?
