What we’re about

Wondering what life at a large law firm is really like and what it takes to succeed? At a firm and wanting to set yourself apart and become that go-to, rock-star associate? Considering long-term goals and want to ensure you are taking the right steps to set yourself up for success?

You’ve got questions; we’ve got answers.

“Associate Intel” is a meetup organized by two former senior associates (one corporate, one litigation) from top firms (Davis Polk and Sullivan & Cromwell) to demystify law firm life for law students and help current associates excel in their roles. We want to help you confidently achieve your career goals—at the firm and beyond—by offering candid, practical advice on key aspects of associate success. Through an informal, interactive format (combining presentations, panels, exercises, and lots of Q&A), we’ll start conversations around the key tips and tricks of the trade you need to know most.

Our first meeting will focus especially on helping this year’s summer associates hit the ground running and make the most of their summer experience. But our themes focus on being the most effective associate possible, so all sessions will have plenty to offer full-time associates. First up: “Biglaw-Bound? Ask Anything!” where you’ll get candid answers in response to whatever’s on your mind as you begin the law-firm journey.

Other sessions will cover a variety of topics, such as:
• How to tackle your first assignments;
• The qualities of an effective associate;
• Strategic assignment selection (during your summer and beyond);
• Navigating conflicts between work and your personal life (and other thorny issues); and
• Making the most of the summer’s opportunities to begin building your personal network within the firm.

(And your questions on anything are always welcome.)

We look forward to having you as part of our community!
