In a few words or a single sentence, describe your current position with regard to religious claims (e.g. atheist, agnostic, non-believer, believer, searching believer, etc). Please be specific in order to have your membership approved.

My family drifted away from organized religion when I was young, and I never found any need for it thereafter. We get our morals and sense of right and wrong outside of religion anyway, i.e., from the examples set by family and members of the greater community. Critical thinking has shown me no evidence for gods and the dangers of acting on false premises.

What types of events interest you, and what do you hope to get from the Atheist Community of San José (ACSJ)?

A community of like-minded people for intelligent discussions and the variety of events we currently enjoy

What Werner H. is saying about this Meetup Group

The fact that I've stayed active with this group for the entire 2.5 years since its inception tells you how much I enjoy it and feel at home with it. Beyond discussions about breaking from religion, evolution of morality, legal & social issues of atheism, and beyond fun activities like picnics, bowling, hiking, beach parties, dinner parties, etc., we're now getting more serious and more funding into philanthropic activities like blood donations, food bank assistance, various homeless aids, environmental & street clean-ups, and teaching critical thinking skills at elementary schools. I clicked with this group from the start and I can see us developing into a close-knit community that supports one another in tough times as well as the easy ones, the kind all people search for.
