Find and build community with other non-theists! Discuss arguments for and against the existence of gods. Talk about concerns with religion and theism, secularism, and whether Toronto needs a formal group dedicated to atheism and/or atheist activism.
Come share your views on philosophy, politics, popular opinion or whatever debatable topic that deserves more discussion. The Atheist Community of Toronto's Cognitive Congress hopes to provide a fertile discussion environment where attendees can debate topics chosen by attendees in self regulated groups.
A brief overview of the format:
- Cards will be provided to attendees to fill out if they have a topic or idea they wish to discuss and display the topic for others who would like to share their opinions.
- Using the card to advertise your particular interest all attendees can either join an existing discussion group or splinter off and form their own discussion topics.
- We encourage mobility at our meetups to ensure a mixing of ideas and views so don’t feel glued to your seat and encourage inclusion in discussions wherever possible.
- We value civil discussion so please keep interruptions to a minimum and volume to a reasonable level.
For those who are interested more in-depth topics and which would benefit from dedicated research, we now have a Google Sheets up to aggregate topics, descriptions and research sources:
ATTN: DATE CHANGE TO FEBRUARY 10TH
Atheists & Friends meetups are fun and fascinating discussion groups focusing on a range of topics within the realm of atheism. They're open to the public and everyone is welcome to join in!
Our Greater Toronto Area meetup is normally held every FIRST Sunday of the month at 5:00 p.m., at Scallywags, 11 St.Clair Ave W, reserved under the name 'meetup'. Exceptions to these location details will be posted clearly when and if they apply.
This event is free and open to the public.
This meetup a social gathering and open for discussions. It is meant to build a community of Atheists, non-believers , whichever labels you prefer.
As such it fulfills many purposes. For those involved in the secular groups, we keep each other up to date and draw involvement for various projects. We explore views and issues affecting our personal lives, local community and around the world, and point to resources.
And we definitely have been having good times at these gatherings, keeping them going month after month.
We gather at 7pm. We set this time as a starting time, and for reservation purposes. If you want to join us but cannot make it on time, let us know. Sometimes we stick around until late.
Please post messages concerning this particular meet up here. If you want to discuss issues online, the desktop view of meetup has the discussion forums. Or join us on facebook.
