We will be reviewing and savouring two wonderful TV shows from the dying embers of 2020, the BBC’s Goes Wrong Show Nativity play and RTÉ’s NYE Countdown Show (which included a spoof news item of God being arrested for a historic sexual offence). Both shows were a sheer delight, but they managed to stir up a brouhaha from the sensitive and delicate souls of the pious who demanded that none of us should be exposed to THIS KIND OF THING because the sketches MOCKED GOD and were thereby doing Satan’s work.

RTÉ, on the other hand, abjectly capitulated, agreed to take down the sketches from its website and to report itself to the broadcasting regulator for allegedly contravening various bits and pieces of its own code and standards. The entire Editorial Standards Board will undoubtedly don sackcloth and ashes and publically scourge itself for its lapse into ungodliness. This despite the fact that in 2018 people throughout Ireland overwhelmingly voted to remove the offence of blasphemy from the Cosntitution and the last remnants of anti-blasphemy legislation was removed from the statute book last year.
