Believe it or not, 1st February has been designated by somebody "World Hijab Day". To "counter-celebrate" this ridiculous piece of nonsense, the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain is premiering a truly moving and inspiring film of the voices of a selection of the many courageous women who have left Islam. It is a film not to be missed and we shall be watching it with the Cleveland Freethinkers, Ex-Muslim Meetup Group of Britain and Ireland and other like-minded friends around the world.
One of the contributors to the film, Zara Kay, was detained by the police for 32 hours when visiting her native Tanzania and is facing charges over alleged petty offences but which may carry serious consequences. These appear clearly to be a result of her activism.
See https://www.faithlesshijabi.org/justiceforzarakay/ for more details.
There will, of course, be time for discussion after the film.
This event is free but, you are invited to contribute to and support the work of the Ex-Muslims of Britain https://www.ex-muslim.org.uk/, Faithless Hijabi and/or similar campaigning organisations where you are, such as, of course, Atheist Ireland.
This showing is an independent event not sponsored or supported by the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain.
