When I started this Meetup I wanted to create a safe space among a group of women gathering on a regular basis to celebrate and vent out worries. A festive space where women can connect, communicate, network, express, share experiences, support each others, share joy and sorrow, build friendships and have fun.
Because of my fascination with the ancient world’s mythology especially when it comes to the representation of Goddesses in different cultures, I named the Meetup Athena’s Circle after the Greek Goddess of wisdom and war Athena. Depictions of Athena inspired symbols of freedom like the Statue of Liberty and Britannia-the national personification of Britain.
The Circle was born with vague features early 2020 with one persisting thought: How to support and spread joy among its members? And when the pandemic hit Athena’s Circle fate was unknown, but I kept my faith high with the support of good friendships I made during the few meetups before the lockdown.
I realised during the years of the pandemic that the mission of this meetup is not just to go places and do things, but to help every woman create a pleasant memory that eases the daily task of navigating life. I always believed the simple sheer joyful moments in our lives make the heavy weight of the world tolerable.
Let's celebrate the arrival of summer in Barca, a new wine bar and tapas in Old Alexandria. As travelling remains difficult I really love the idea of experiencing Spain's beach bars (Chiringuitos) over a two industrial freight containers that float atop the Potomac River.
Beside other means of commuting, you can take the water taxi from the Wharf to Old Alexandria.
