Anyone looking to improve their knowledge and skills of digital photography will do just that at the Atlanta Photo Workshops (www.atlantaphotoworkshops.com). The classes & workshops at APW are created and presented by professional photographer and instructor Dean Stevenson. Whether you're a beginner or advanced photographer, there's a class at APW designed to help you. You won't just learn about photography, you'll become a great photographer. Dean has been teaching thousands of students throughout the Atlanta area and beyond since 2005. What separates Dean apart as a teacher is his ability to help students grasp difficult concepts the first time while bringing a sincere passion to make you a better photographer.

Photographing the Night Workshop at Lindale Mill

I'm holding a night photography workshop on Friday, May 3, from 7:00p-11:00p. This fun workshop is a great way to ease into the unique challenges of photographing the night. We will meet at Lindale Mill in Lindale, Georgia, allowing us a fantastic subject to use as a foreground against the night sky. Topics Covered Include: • Necessary Equipment • Environmental Considerations • Choosing a Location/Subject • Exposure settings and creativity • Photographing the Stars • Introduction to Painting with Light What to Bring: • Camera with a Bulb mode • Sturdy Tripod • Remote switch, Cable release, or Timer Controller • Lenses: wide angle and fisheye • Flashlight/Maglite/headlamp with red light • Comfortable walking shoes • Students will be given a class booklet for taking notes The cost is $125 per student and includes admission into the mill. Photoshop Workshop Part 2: Layers, Masks, Selections, and More!

Adobe Photoshop®. The very mention of this highly powerful photo editing program can strike fear into the heart of both new users and even those with some experience with the program. Although comprehensive, understanding the tools and most important features of the program can significantly take your image post-processing and visual control of the final image to the next level. Learning how to use Layers, Masks, and Selections are critical to your success in accomplishing this. Please join Billy Newman as he guides you through these most important features of the program and so much more to help you achieve the vision you have for your images. Part 2 - In this class, we explore layers, masks and selections, but much more in depth. You will learn about clipping masks, fill layers, blending modes, fill vs opacity, and more. Billy will show you how these tools to enhance his own images and yours. We will also cover selections more in depth, so you can learn how to select difficult subjects like people or blurred out areas. Learn how to save selections, subtract one selection from another, refine your selection, and how to choose the right selection tool for the right subject. In this class, we realize the full power of Photoshop by pulling out all the options of layers, masks and selections. It's recommended that students have some familiarity with Photoshop® but novice users are welcomed and encouraged to attend as well. Attendees should bring their laptop with Photoshop® installed and a folder of images to work with. Billy will be providing a handout for each student. Photographing Florals and Botanicals with Billy Newman

Spring is a wonderful time of year. Warmer weather brings about changes in nature that produce beauty all around us. Flowers and botanicals play the primary role that adds to natures awesome spectacle of new life as they start to bloom in an amazing spectrum of color, waiting to be photographed. Come out and join Atlanta based fine art photographer and instructor Billy Newman as he brings you into the Atlanta Botanical Gardens to capture the best floral and botanical displays found throughout the gardens this Spring. Billy Newman has produced some of the most beautiful floral imagery your eyes will ever see. He specializes in creating unique abstract images of plants, flowers, ice, and water, with an emphasis on light, color, and composition, using techniques that are truly his own. Besides being a true artist of the lens, Billy has also spent years as a master color printer in New York City and has taught photography here in Atlanta at both the Showcase School and Portfolio Center.
