Anyone looking to improve their knowledge and skills of digital photography will do just that at the Atlanta Photo Workshops (www.atlantaphotoworkshops.com). The classes & workshops at APW are created and presented by professional photographer and instructor Dean Stevenson. Whether you're a beginner or advanced photographer, there's a class at APW designed to help you. You won't just learn about photography, you'll become a great photographer. Dean has been teaching thousands of students throughout the Atlanta area and beyond since 2005. What separates Dean apart as a teacher is his ability to help students grasp difficult concepts the first time while bringing a sincere passion to make you a better photographer.

Photographing the Night Workshop at Old Car City

I'll be offering another night photography workshop on Friday, October 9, from 5:30p-10:30p. This fun workshop is a great way to ease into the unique challenges of photographing the night while learning how to paint with light during long exposures and photograph the night sky. We will meet at Old Car City in White, Georgia. Old Car City is about an hour's drive North from downtown Atlanta and is the worlds largest known classic car junkyard. There are over 4000 abandoned classic cars, trucks, vans, and school buses scattered amongst 34 acres of woods. We will use these abandoned relics as light painting subjects to illuminate against the backdrop of the night sky. Social distancing will not be an issue as each member will have plenty of space to work within throughout the grounds and we will continue to honor the 6 feet distancing guidelines. Topics Covered Include: • Necessary Equipment • Environmental Considerations • Choosing a Location/Subject • Exposure settings and creativity • Painting with Light using a variety of light sources and colored gels • Photographing the Stars including Milky Way and Star Trails What to Bring: • Camera with a Bulb mode • Sturdy Tripod • Remote or wireless triggers, Cable release, or Timer Controller (to trigger the camera hands-free) • Lenses: wide angle, normal, and fisheye • Flashlights/Maglite/headlamp with red light • A hot-shoe Flash with colored gels or filters • Remote or wireless trigger for your hot-shoe flash (i.e. Pocket Wizards) if you have them (no biggie if you don't) • Comfortable walking shoes • Students will be given a class booklet for taking notes The cost is $125 per student and includes admission into the Old Car City. One Day Basic Digital Workshop

I'll be holding a One Day Basic Digital Workshop Sunday, October 11, from 10a-5p at Professional Photo Resources in Atlanta. If you or someone you know is still struggling with concepts such as shutter speeds, apertures, exposure, metering, white balance, and the many other features and controls of your digital camera, this workshop will help you finally 'get it' so you can start gaining the confidence you need to consistently take great images without getting lucky. Each student will be provided with a 50 page color Digital Basics book that will help you follow along during the presentation and includes assignments to help you grasp the concepts discussed. A post-workshop critique of your assignments is also included to be sure you're headed in the right direction. Social distancing guidelines of 6 feet will be honored throughout the workshop. Full details of the workshop will be provided to all registrants via email before the class. The following is a short list of the information that will be covered: * Understanding Digital Camera Technology. * Quality Settings: JPEG vs. RAW * Understanding White Balance and how to use it * The relationship between ISO, Apertures, & Shutter Speeds * Exposure, Exposure Modes, & Metering * Basic Image Processing & Workflow * Understanding Lenses and their uses This workshop is open to anyone with a digital SLR, point & shoot, or mirrorless camera.
