Arabia Mountain Workshop/Field Trip - Janerio Morgan and Jim Harrison, Leaders

Details
APS Members and Master Photographers Janerio Morgan and Jim Harrison will lead a close-by workshop/field trip to Arabia Mountain to capture the unique flora of this mountain location in the Spring.
At first glance the "barren" granite outcrop area of Arabia Mountain doesn’t appear to be photographically inspiring. The secret. You have to look for the details... small details… very small details.
The Arabia Mountain area is known for a tiny red flowering plant called Diamorpha which grows in shallow pools of water about two months of the year, March and April. This, and the nearby Panola Mountain, is the only know area in Georgia that these plants grow, so watch your step and take care to protect the rare, fragile plants. There are other flora and small critters too -frogs, lizards, birds etc. Wide angle shots are another opportunity.
Date and Location: March 20, 2021; 7:30am
Meet in front of the visitors enter next to the parking.
Details:
The area is a rock granite rock outcrop located near Panola off of I-20E. The park is primarily composed of two main areas divided a road. The east side is what is is known as Arabia Mountain and is hilly but not technical in hiking terms. The west side, the same side as the visitors center, is relatively flat.
Shooting:
We’ll be shooting the east side, mountain side, because this area usually comes into bloom before the west side at this time of the year. On the way back to the parking area I will lead a short tour of the west side for some shots, but you are welcome to stay until dark.
Gear Suggestions:
Macro Lens or Close Up Diopters
Wide Angle Lens
Tripod
Water to stay hydrated
Comfortable shoes. Sandals not recommended.
Knee pads (optional) I quite often find myself kneeling to get the shot.
Light Reflectors (optional)
Hat

Woodrow Rd dead ends into Klondike, turn right on Klondike Rd. You will see a parking lot on the left and a big field with barn on the right. This is NOT the correct lot. Keep going to a traffic circle and continue straight on the same road. The visitors center and parking will be on your right.
