Putting the Cloud in Your Pocket - Using the New Windows Azure Mobile Services

Details

John Garland is a Principal Consultant at Wintellect and a Microsoft Client Development MVP who will come and enlighten us all on how to put the cloud in your Pocket with Azure Mobile Services.

Azure Mobile Services provides mobile developers a valuable tool they can use to quickly create rich and robust apps in the current Mobile First, Cloud First environment. Since its initial release, the functionality provided by Mobile Services has evolved tremendously, and now includes the option to use either a .NET/WebAPI based back-end service or the original Node.js implementation.

This session will introduce the new .NET-based Windows Azure Mobile Services and will show how it can be used to quickly stand up cloud-based API support and provide the various cloud service integration needs of most mobile apps, including data storage and manipulation, authentication and authorization, connection to notification services, offline data synchronization, and custom server-based job scheduling.

John, prior to consulting, has spent much of his career working on high-performance video and statistical analysis tools for premier sports teams, with an emphasis on the NFL, the NBA, and Division 1 NCAA Football and Basketball. His consulting clients range from small businesses to Fortune-500 companies and his work has been featured at Microsoft conference keynotes and sessions. John and his family have recently relocated to Atlanta from New Hampshire where he has been a long-time active participant in the New England development community. He is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering.

John is the author of the book “Windows Store Apps Succinctly”, available through Syncfusion and most recently co-authored the book “Programming the Windows Runtime by Example” with Jeremy Likness, which will be released in June 2014. He is a member of Microsoft’s Azure Insiders group, as well as a member of the Azure Mobile Services Advisory Board.
