Lets go on a "The Walking Dead Scenes Tour!"

  • Jul 20, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Senoia (AKA Woodbury) and Grantville (where Rick found Morgan) are 2 great locations to see where they filmed some of the shows episode with lots of filming locations. Ive wanted to do this for a while, but no one ever wants to go! If your a fan of The Walk Dead you will love this! Grantville does a free walking tour Thurs-Sun every week. This looks like tons of fun! We can work out the particulars soon. Im putting this for July 20th but we can change it if need be! Looking at meeting in Senoia then tracking back over to I-85 to the Granvtville 6pm tour. We have another meetup of geeks that will be joining us as well!

More info Here: https://www.facebook.com/grantvillewalkingdead

The Metro Geeks Walking Dead Tour Itinerary

(Below - copied from here for benefit of those who might not be able to view on their mobile devices)
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0cbIszU4cIrNjV5VFdSS0F6TjQ/edit

There are several different areas included in the tour, and most of them are around the Senoia area. After meeting at Woodbury Shoppe, we will begin the tour with some light driving around the area before heading to the Grantville Walking Dead tour (which is free).

We will be stopping in Haralson, to see the old mill and silos featured in the opening credits, where Merle died and where Andrea and Michonne were hiding out. We will also get a chance to see the site of Rick and the Governor’s meeting. There are many photo ops included in this popular tour!

This should be a lot of fun, getting to see sights from our favorite show and meeting fellow “Walkers”!

1. 2:15-2:30pm – Meet at Woodbury Shoppe to look around at the town and view various props from the show. This is a very interesting area, as several movies have been filmed in this area.

2. 3:15pm – Depart Senoia en route to the church where the group ran and was held up while looking for Sophia Season 1. This will be a quick stop, approximately 5-10 minutes.

3. 3:30pm – Head to the waterfall/campsite where Rick declares his leadership to the group and lets them know that he’s in charge after they leave the farm before heading to the prison. This will be a quick stop, approximately 5-10 minutes.

4. 4:00pm – Arrive in Haralson our tour. Sites here include the Old Silos, Meeting Place, Old Store, and Deer Cooler-Andrea and Michonne. The tour should take approximately 45 minutes and only costs $10. If you choose not to take the paid tour, you can still walk around and see the areas from outside.

5. 4:45pm – On our way to Sharpsburg to see Hershel’s Bar and the pharmacy where Glenn and Maggie look for baby formula. The pharmacy is open to the public and is owned by a very nice lady that will explain what went on during filming.

6. 5:30pm – Leave in time to arrive for 6:30pm Grantville Walking Dead tour. Features of this tour include Morgan’s apartment, the zombie mortuary where Morgan was burning bodies, the weapons run where Rick looks for ammo, and the restaurant where Carl finds
the picture of his parents.

The Metro Geeks Walking Dead tour will conclude after the Grantville Walking Dead tour.

Interested Walking Dead fans can also choose to continue on to Newnan, where you will find the “Zombie Arena” and the roadside motel where Merle and Michonne hotwired a car and tripped the alarm, making the zombie hoard run to them.

Many thanks to Tim for organizing this outing! I had a simply awesome time, even with the rain! Took a while slew of photos, met some great people and made some new friends. :-) The tours were great fun and I look forward to doing the Atlanta tour in the future.

Awesome Walking Dead tour. Well planned, and organized. Lots to see and take in. Certainly, a great photo op and wonderful fellowship. Glad I came. I understand there's another "Walking Dead" tour planned for the future in Atlanta. I look forward to attending that one as well. Keep up the great work.

At the risk of sounding like the voice of doom, is there an inclement weather contingency plan?

    July 18, 2013

    • Tim

That sounds ok. I'm sure it will be fine

      July 18, 2013

If the weather got too bad, there is a great geeky spot in Fayetteville - just about 15-20 minutes north of Senoia on GA-85 where the meetup could be relocated - Treefort Games - we've held several gaming meetups there in their new location they have a lot of space.

We have several other people from the other meetup that will be joining us. So, we should have a pretty good size crew going! We are planning to meet somewhere like Peachtree City so we can caravan or carpool together to the few different sites and on to the tours. I plan on getting an itinerary together in the next couple weeks for everyone's approval
