What are your favorite subjects regarding science?

Ecology and evolutionary biology; co-evolution more particularly, plant-insect interactions to be precise. Also lately very interested in swarm behavior, complex networks, chaos theory.

Where do you currently get your science news?

I have to read a lot of papers for work, so I keep up with Science, Nature, and other peer reviewed pubs, but also read NYTimes, Economist, and listen to NPR. Love Christopher Joyce.

What do you think will make science more appreciated and interesting to the general public?

My raison d'etre is to integrate art and science. I believe that this false dichotomy of art vs. science has done us a disservice. We all need more opportunity to develop curiosity, experiment with the world, use both reason and creativity, think with both sides of our brains and also engage our senses and our hands. Piling more and more facts, more and more logical arguments -- this is necessary, but not sufficient. The arts are a great way to communicate the wonder and beauty of scientific stories, and to communicate the emotional content of amazing stories.
