Upcoming Events at the Science Tavern - September 26, 2011 Edition

From: Marc M.
Sent on: Monday, September 26, 2011 10:35 AM

Here are some reminders about upcoming events we already have on our calendar. We’ll be adding some new ones next week. Keep in mind that our open seating policy applies to our featured meetups. Follow links for details and to RSVP.

This week

Wednesday, 6:00p

A Global Strategy for a 21st-Century University - The View from Liverpool

Please join us for this inaugural event of our Science as an International Endeavor series of science cafes sponsored by the European consulates of Atlanta, this one hosted by the British Consulate General here. Light refreshments will be available at 6:00 with the talk beginning at 6:30. RSVPs help in our planning!

Wed, Oct 12, 7:00p

The Mathematics, Magic and Mystery of Martin Gardner

Our more informal Science Rathskeller series continues in October at Java Vino across the street from Manuel's, now upstairs in the very chic Wine Lounge there. There is no charge for these meetups, but come hungry and thirsty to help us meet our minimum tab.

Fri, Oct 14, 6:30p

"Selections" Art Opening Celebrating the Darwin Exhibit at Fernbank

This is an opportunity to take in the just-opened Darwin Exhibit at Fernbank over Martinis and IMAX and to view an interesting collection of artworks created by Atlanta- and Athens-based artists celebrating Darwin and the theory of evolution.

Sat, Oct 22, 7:00p

Cool Neutrino Astrophysics at the South Pole

With talk of faster-than-light neutrinos all the rage this past week, this Manuel's meetup could hardly be better timed. I doubt if anyone needs more encouragement than that to attend.

A Science Tavern member has shared an event she is hosting that may be of interest to our group. It's an evening with Pulitzer Prize winning author, Siddhartha Mukherjee, who'll be reading from his book The Emperor of All Maladies, a biography of cancer, on Thursday, October 6.

Wed, Nov 9, 7:00p

Peptides: A New Vocabulary in the Language of Life

Sat, Nov 19, 7:00p

Mr. Jefferson and the Giant Moose

Hope to see you all at the Tavern, the Rathskeller and around town!
