The Problem: Children are facing a huge amount of pressure at school & elsewhere due to heavy competition. A child as young as 6 years old is facing the pressure of coping with school and extracurricular activities. There is peer pressure and everyone wants to excel. When these children enter adolescence, they are not able to cope with the hormonal changes. They are too burdened with social, emotional,
physical and psychological pressures. They are not able to meet the demands and rigor of school and extracurricular activities. Their self-esteem gets impacted making them agitated, angry, aggressive, sad and tired. Some of them even resort to chemical substances like drugs and alcohol just to escape their situations.
The Solution: Studies show that children who practice yoga will be better able to regulate their emotions, manage stress and calm themselves. Yoga also helps in reducing problem behavior and improves grade levels from preschool to high school. Through yoga practice, children begin to listen to their inner cues and emotions. By shifting self-awareness inwards a buffer is formed between the student and negative social pressures. Yoga also improves focus, memory, academic performance and classroom behavior. Yoga teaches acceptance and tolerance of others, hence teaching kids early on that living beings are to be cherished and respected as they are. These children are more likely to be positive and optimistic about life and their abilities, less likely to succumb to anxiety. depression and other mental issues.
