John Buckwell - Wine-Searcher.com

Did you know that the world's largest wine and liquor search engine is based in Auckland?

Wine-Searcher (https://www.wine-searcher.com/) faces a seemingly impossible text classification problem with a very large number of classes, sparse training data, badly behaved query data and an ambitious accuracy target.

A genetic algorithm has proved more successful than all previous approaches for classifying wine names that merchants include on price lists into a catalogue with hundred thousands of wines.

Industry Highlight: Jenny Cheng - Just Roboser

The legal profession will undergo fundamental shifts as technology has a greater impact on how lawyers work. AI and smart technology can also facilitate access to justice for many people who are unable to afford legal services. To this end, Jenny has partnered up with a Law Professor from the University of Auckland to create a robot lawyer. In this Industry Highlight, we open the conversation on how AI applications can be used in the law.
