Neuromorphic systems and spiking neural networks

As a follow-up to our March Meetup by Professor Kasabov, Dr Neelava Sengupta will be taking us on a detailed journey into the implementation and theory of Spiking Neural Networks. Come with your questions ready!

This talk will concentrate on the challenges of developing spiking neural network (SNN) systems for real-world applications. Neel especially will be interested in comparing SNN systems with the present technologies and place it in the current AI ecosystem including deep learning. The focus will be on several aspects of SNN such as neuron models, learning, architecture and information representation.

Neelava Sengupta, is a senior artificial intelligence engineer at a fresh startup insite.ai, a joint venture between Goat Ventures and PwC focusing on AI in retail. Neel has previous experience of working in AI techs in various applications such as intelligent tutoring systems, recommender systems, and NLP. Neel holds a post graduate diploma and has recently submitted his PhD thesis specialising in spiking neural networks and neuromorphic systems. His focus is on the algorithmic side of neural networks and is in general interested in the whole idea of learning, intelligence and nature's inspirations around such ideas.
