• [MTB] Kev's 59th Birthday Ride FourForty Mtb Park - Auckland

    Needs a location

Spring is here and so is my birthday so lets celebrate both in style at FourForty Mtb Park!.. All the trails have either been fully groomed or rebuilt and there also some new trails that were built over Winter that must be ridden and after the ride we'll have a sausage sizzle at the onsite bbq! Btw that's me in the centre of the photo with the confederate plate at the first NZ Bmx Nationals in 1983!

FourForty is a mountain bike park one hours drive from Auckland City boasting downhill descents of 440 meters in vertical height. The trails cater for beginner to expert riders, and have a dedicated uphill trail to access the lower half of the park as well as a shuttle uplift service.

    LOCATION
Fourforty Mountain Bike Park is located about 1 hours drive south east of the Auckland CBD between Kawakawa Bay and Orere Point.
For GPS purposes the address of the park is 521 Kawakawa - Orere Road https://goo.gl/maps/RK9vF8KJ9Bu, but please don't enter the actual driveway of 521 instead take the next driveway south of this address - that is the entrance. We will meet at the big wooden shed which is the park office and the shuttle loading point.

    PASSES & PARK RULES
You will need to purchase a day pass to be able to ride here - you can see the pass options available in their shop, including pre-bookings or private group shuttle options: https://www.fourfortymtbpark.co.nz/page/Park_Information/

    Single uplift $[masked] uplifts $[masked] uplifts $[masked] uplifts family/shareable $[masked] uplifts $[masked] uplifts $325.00
    Park access and uphill trails
    Park access only $10.00
Park access and 2 uplifts $25.00

An uphill pass gets you access to approximately half the parks elevation and trails - includes access to uphill trails/roads and trails, asphalt pump track. Excludes shuttle access.

Please take note the following details:

    • You must sign a waiver before riding at FourForty
    • There is no access to the trails without a pass
    • Riding up the shuttle road is not permitted for safety reasons
    • Appropriate gear must be worn at all times. Helmets compulsory, knee pads strongly advised (Full face helmets compulsory when riding the Ruapehu DH track only)
    • They reserve the right to deny access to the trails if any gear to be used is unfit for use in the Bike Park.

    WHAT TO BRING
The park does cater for beginner riders but its a good idea to bring adequate protection. Please remember to bring the following when visiting the park.

The following gear is recommended when visiting the park.

    • Knee pads
    • Gloves
    • Certified helmet, this can be an open face or full face helmet.
    • A well serviced and safe bike that is suitable for serious off road use
    • Solid riding shoes, no jandals/flipflops or open top footwear.

Besides your usual riding gear bring a tube, pump and tools to make basic repairs if required and enough water for about 3-4 hours of riding and snacks during the ride as well as a packed lunch.
There is a cafe/bakery in Clevedon if you want to grab something on the way. Bring a chilly bin if you like to keep your lunch and drinks cool as we will probably go back to the car for lunch at about 12:00 for around half an hour.

    BIKE HIRE
If you would like to hire a bike they have a fleet of full suspension Transition Patrol 160mm or Spire 170mm travel trail bikes for rent. They are available in sizes small, medium and large. No booking required. Pricing and details are as follows.
    Transition Patrol/Spire trail bikes

    • Half day $85
    • Full day $139.00

    POST RIDE
We usually stop in at the recently opened Hallertau Beer Garden in Clevedon on the way home for a craft beer, wine or non-alcolohic drink
and a chat about how the days riding went...

    CANCELLATION
Also beware that if there is bad weather/rain the Bike Park sometimes closes for safety reasons. Be sure to check their Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FourfortyMountainBikePark page or website before heading out to get the latest updates.

    I'll see you there!

  • [MTB] Real Adventure Trail ride - join in the mystery

    Needs a location

    1. Does the idea of the unknown excite you?
    2. Do you like the feel of being a maverick on a journey?
    3. Are you sick of the "same old" challenges each weekend and just looking for something a little bit different to break out of the norm?
    4. Are you intrigued by the prospect of riding bike trails others might not agree follow contemporary expectations?

If you answered YES then these rides might be for you!

These mystery rides are for capable riders who like to ride old school trails that aren’t seriously groomed or sculptured to within an inch of their flow riding lives.

This is real riding where you need to make your flow happen with your skill because the trails don't just give it to you because you point the bike downhill.

If you love a challenge then join us for some fun exhilarating times.

    WHO'S IT FOR
Riders who like a bit of off camber trail, who enjoy tight twisty technical terrain with obstacles to conquer and don’t mind exerting a bit of energy, or getting dirty (some mud is possible), or really using their brains when riding.

Don’t expect massive sustained gravity descents, but do be ready to see your up and down riding skills tested at every turn in the variable terrain that’s going to be on offer - plus expect your handling skills to grow exponentially as a result.

    THE TRAILS
The trails we’ll ride may or may not be ridden on a lot these days for a variety of reasons.... which means they could be a little overgrown in places, but they are definitely purpose built mountain bike orientated trails that are intended to put your MTB riding skills to the test - and are guaranteed to deliver fun exciting satisfying times.

I promise there is nothing truly scary, just worthy challenges.

    WHAT BIKES
Only suitable for proper knobbly mountain bikes (no hybrids, or road bikes)

    AND YOU
Must be confident riding variable terrain, and think every obstacle is simply there for you to conquer.

    WHERE
Located in and around the north shore region - exact riding/meeting locations will be provided to RSVP’d riders the evening prior on a need to know basis to maintain the required air of mystery.

What happens on tour stays on tour, but feel free to tell your friends too join us if they dare.

  • [MTB] Sunday Woodhill or Riverhead Bi-Weekly Ride

    Needs a location

Come and join us for a bi weekly MTB ride at either Woodhill or Riverhead on Sundays. We will choose which location a few days before depending on the weather. Be sure to check back for updates and comments related to the final location choice.

In the unlikely event that none of the hosts can make it then a ride may be cancelled up to a few days before.

    SKILL LEVEL
This is a blend of Intermediate and Advanced riding and I envisage we will start with intermediate and likely split up into 2 smaller groups later in the morning to allow those who want to continue to focus on an intermediate level to do so while a few in the group seek out a couple more challenging trails to end the day. You can choose which level you wish to do.

    TRAILS
Mix of grade 3 & 4 through out the day but as mentioned above you can elect to do only 3's and the odd easy 4 if you aren't in the advanced camp

    FITNESS
We won’t be treating these as uphill races, the ride is more focused on the ride downhill so your uphill climbing speed is not critical though you must be fit enough to climb judgement call at least 2 times.

ACG operates a no drop policy which means we regroup at trail heads and trail ends to ensure everyone is safe and accounted for.

We will be out there for a few hours but it will be at a comfortable pace and will regroup for each other at junctions and top of hills.

    ***

    MEETING POINT

Arrive and meet up at the BBQ tables in front of the main Woodhill MTB Park shop by or prior to 8.45am so everyone can have time to purchase park passes and get their equipment ready to ride by 9:00am.

Arriving early means you won't be left behind - you can always grab a coffee and socialise with the other riders while we wait for the 9:00am start time.
Casual pass $15 or you can buy 6 or 10 month passes.
