  • Bike Maintenance Classes with Adventure Cycles in Western Springs

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please only stay on the RSVP if you are actually going to attend the classes, when people don't turn up it's not fair on the provider or our other ACG members who would like to attend. Please be considerate and keep your commitment and RSVP's up to date at all times.

    -------------------------------------

Well you asked for it.... so we have delivered.

IT'S TIME TO GET YOUR BIKE MAINTENANCE FREAK ON!

According to our last members poll over 50% of you are interested to know how to do some form of DIY bike maintenance, plus learn more about how your bikes work.

You may not have realised it but there is a little 'old school' style bike repair shop in Western Springs called Adventure Cycles (http://www.adventure-auckland.co.nz/adventurecycles/php/serv_class.php) who already offers maintenance classes to the public on the first monday of every month.... and anyone can go along and learn whatever is high on your priority list at the current moment.

Rather than reinvent the wheel (pun intended) we've decided to work in with them to offer you some maintenance classes.

Whether it be as simple as how to change a tyre or repair a puncture or way more complex like replacing your rear cassette, adjusting your derailleurs, changing brake pads, repacking your bottom bracket or any other multitude of maintenance skills you can ask their Shimano & CABDA certified tutors to show you how in a 2 hour session.

Simply grab your bike and take it into their workshop along with your wish list of things you want to learn that night and they will walk you through the processes in a very practical, hands on manner.

Anyone can go... young, old, male, or female it makes no difference --- if you want to learn a new maintenance skill then this is the opportunity for you and it only costs you $12 per session... and you can keep going back to learn a new skill each month if you wish.

Training given for both road and mountain bikes and probably just about any bicycle in between.

This won't be an event that has an auckland cycling group host present, it is simply set up to help bring a bunch of our members together for the night so you don't feel like you are going it alone... so jumpon the RSVP list and maybe even drag a friend along with you and make it a fun evening learning a new skill.

Note: this workshop is the old style of mechanic workshop so it would be best to wear old clothes that you don't mind getting a bit of grease and oil on etc as you won't find any german inspired crisp white floors at this place... its a real working workshop where you get your hands dirty.

COST is $12 per session (pay on the night - cash and eftpos available)

LOCATION: Adventure Cycles (https://maps.google.com/maps?q=9%20Premier%20Ave%2C%20Auckland)- 9 Premier Ave, Western Springs, Auckland

WHAT TO BRING: Your bike, money and your agenda of what you want to learn for the evening. Also wear old clothes you don't mind getting dirty.

    START TIME: 6.30pm

    DURATION: 2 Hours

WHEN: THIS EVENT WILL REPEAT ON THE FIRST MONDAY OF EVERY MONTH

LIMITED TO ONLY 5 PEOPLE from ACG each session so get on the RSVP quickly. Only take a spot if you are serious about attending.

So they know where you are from please mention that you are part of Auckland Cycling Group when you are paying.

  • [MTB] Real Adventure Trail ride - join in the mystery

    1. Does the idea of the unknown excite you?
    2. Do you like the feel of being a maverick on a journey?
    3. Are you sick of the "same old" challenges each weekend and just looking for something a little bit different to break out of the norm?
    4. Are you intrigued by the prospect of riding bike trails others might not agree follow contemporary expectations?

If you answered YES then these rides might be for you!

These mystery rides are for capable riders who like to ride old school trails that aren’t seriously groomed or sculptured to within an inch of their flow riding lives.

This is real riding where you need to make your flow happen with your skill because the trails don't just give it to you because you point the bike downhill.

If you love a challenge then join us for some fun exhilarating times.

    WHO'S IT FOR
Riders who like a bit of off camber trail, who enjoy tight twisty technical terrain with obstacles to conquer and don’t mind exerting a bit of energy, or getting dirty (some mud is possible), or really using their brains when riding.

Don’t expect massive sustained gravity descents, but do be ready to see your up and down riding skills tested at every turn in the variable terrain that’s going to be on offer - plus expect your handling skills to grow exponentially as a result.

    THE TRAILS
The trails we’ll ride may or may not be ridden on a lot these days for a variety of reasons.... which means they could be a little overgrown in places, but they are definitely bike orientated trails that are intended to put your MTB riding skills to the test - and are guaranteed to deliver fun exciting satisfying times.

I promise there is nothing truly scary, just worthy challenges.

    WHAT BIKES
Only suitable for proper knobbly mountain bikes (no hybrids, or road bikes)

    AND YOU
Must be confident riding variable terrain, and think every obstacle is simply there for you to conquer.

    WHERE
Located in and around the north shore region - exact riding/meeting locations will be provided to RSVP’d riders the evening prior on a need to know basis to maintain the required air of mystery.

What happens on tour stays on tour, but feel free to tell your friends too join us if they dare.

  • [MTB] Sunday Woodhill Bi-Weekly Ride

    Woodhill Mountain Bike Park

Come and join us for a bi weekly MTB ride at Woodhill on Saturdays.

In the unlikely event that none of the hosts can make it then a ride may be cancelled up to a few days before.

    SKILL LEVEL
This is a blend of Intermediate and Advanced riding and I envisage we will start with intermediate and likely split up into 2 smaller groups later in the morning to allow those who want to continue to focus on an intermediate level to do so while a few in the group seek out a couple more challenging trails to end the day. You can choose which level you wish to do.

    TRAILS
Mix of grade 3 & 4 through out the day but as mentioned above you can elect to do only 3's and the odd easy 4 if you aren't in the advanced camp

    FITNESS
We won’t be treating these as uphill races, the ride is more focused on the ride downhill so your uphill climbing speed is not critical though you must be fit enough to climb judgement call at least 2 times.

ACG operates a no drop policy which means we regroup at trail heads and trail ends to ensure everyone is safe and accounted for.

We will be out there for a few hours but it will be at a comfortable pace and will regroup for each other at junctions and top of hills.
