What we're about

This is for photographers who are based in Auckland, New Zealand - it is NOT a social networking group (although we are a friendly bunch). We are looking for people keen on photography who will engage and turn up at our meetups regularly to enjoy photography and are not typically signed up to multiple different meetups - it's hard to expect serious engagement when someone is signed up to 30+ groups! Those who have not attended a meetup for four months without notice will be likely to be dropped from membership.

Our membership is wide-ranging: from those just starting out to professionals. As long as you can take a picture it's a starting point, but we are a sharing, non-competitive community and we share our knowledge. We do not engage in racist, misogynistic, or homophobic comments or any criticism or personal attacks. Please note that this is not a political site, so no image or comments of a political nature either criticizing or promoting a political party will be accepted. Images of the processes of politics, if presented in a neutral way, are acceptable.

What We Do:

We meet to go on photography shoots with a theme, and for educational events.

We shoot on Wednesday evenings, and often at various times on the weekends at a nominated location (usually a cafe). On Wednesdays there is usually someone there to chat with from 4:50pm and we go out to shoot on a specific theme from 5:15pm for an hour, returning back to the same place at 6:15 to compare notes, consume a beverage and discuss our images. Most people are on their way home by 7:00PM.

Weekend shoots will vary in time but each meetup will have a clear meeting point, time and theme.

We also hold a virtual weekly photo challenge for members to shoot a specified number of images on a specific topic. This morphed from our virtual meetups during the pandemic lockdown period.

Members are strongly encouraged to post their images from meetups on the site along with the EXIF data from their camera (if you're not sure about that we'll help you) and members make constructive comments on the images.

We also organize shoots on some weekends and these are arranged depending on the weather and circumstances. We have held shoots at Muriwai, Waiuku, Karioitahi Beach, Manukau Heads Lighthouse, Hamiltons Gap, Puketutu Island, Otuataua Stonefileds Reserve, and Bean Rock Lighthouse. Further afield, we have been to Miranda to the bird hide a few times, Coromandel, Thames, Paeroa, and National Park. We have held model shoots in the city, and at One Tree Hill. In the winter we try to hold a couple of photography workshops and presentations.
