What we're about

Welcome all beginner, enthusiast and professional wine lovers! We will host wine events ranging from casual and social-focused to formal and/or educational. Some events will be aimed at certain levels of knowledge, many will be suitable for all. There will be wine bar meetups, special tastings with wine merchants around the city, BYO restaurant dinners, winery trips and more...

I write about wine for a living and have over 20 years experience selling wine and teaching in the UK and NZ. I worked for wineries in Central Otago, Marlborough and Waipara after coming over to NZ to study for a winemaking diploma at Lincoln University. I'll lead some events; others might involve other wine educators, retailers and importers.

Top wines at $30 or less @ Didas (wine tasting + Tapas, <$55pp)

Dida's Wine Lounge & Tapas

[RSVPs open 3 weeks before event. Vaccine Passport required]

A nice practical wine tasting with food, with a more modest ticket price....

The plan is to try a varied selection of top notch wines in the $20 to $30 bracket from the Glengarry's list - somewhere in the Friday night treat > dinner party price range.

The exact lineup is yet to be confirmed, but could be 3 whites, 1 rosé, 3 reds, and 1 dessert/fortified/sparkling. I might stick to reds and whites if that's where I think the biggest bang for your buck lies.

I expect the wines to come from several countries. There should be some less familiar grape varieties and wine regions.

Assuming we have 10 people and try 8 wines which cost exactly $30, the cost will be around $53pp. This includes about $15pp food (shared dishes), venue hire, corkage and organizer expenses.

The exact price (max $55) will be confirmed on the night as no-shows will necessitate a change of wines and cost recalculation. The bill will be split and eveyone is expected to pay an equal amount.

This event is suitable for both novices and established wine enthusiasts. Please do not RSVP unless you are fairly sure you can and will attend.

Please note that, due to a high number of no-shows in previous events, any member who no-shows twice may be blocked from further events.

I will be at the venue from 5:45pm. I would like to start as close to 6pm as possible. If you are running late please post on the message board.

If you have any questions, do send me a direct message or comment.
