Aaron Rabinowitz will talk about the pervasive problem of moral luck that arises when we admit that everything is ultimately beyond our control.
Aaron will work through the natural anxiety that comes with acknowledging that we lack control, and therefore freedom in an important sense. He hopes to show that this view fits best with current scientific understanding, and that quality of life improves when you adopt this initially unnerving perspective.
Aaron is a lecturer in the Rutgers Philosophy Department and the Rutgers Honors College. He specializes in ethics, metaethics, and AI. His work focuses on developing a secular moral realism that is compatible with the problem of moral luck.
Aaron also hosts two philosophy podcasts: Philosophers in Space and Embrace the Void. The goal of both shows is to make philosophy accessible for everyone, using science fiction and existential horror.
