What we're about

Have you ever wanted to design a board game? Or seen a cool game on a store shelf and said to yourself, "I wonder how they came up with that?"

ABGD&P is a board and card game incubator and social club, where playful yet deadly serious game designers and board game enthusiasts meet to explore and test board game mechanics, themes, playing styles and everything in between. Whether you've tinkered with a game idea, pitched and published games, or are passionate about sharing your insights to help make good projects better, we'd love to help you refine your ideas and make you a better game player in the process.

Come make great games with us!

Virtual Playtesting Session

Online event

Join us for some virtual playtesting! Designers and playtesters, regulars and newcomers are all welcome. The only rule: All games need to be playable through video chat. Players should expect to be tasked with printing out no more than a page or two of materials for your game; if they don't have dice on hand, they can always use an online dice simulator. We'll be meeting via Zoom, using a link that will be provided here - no password is required. Looking for ideas? Roll-and-writes work well, as do mini RPGs, dice games, word games, and many other types of party games. Or get wild and think about the context of the virtual meeting, the human interaction we're all craving, the unique spaces we're all sitting in, or Zoom's chat or group whiteboarding features! We also have the ability to host breakout rooms, which we can use to set up multiple games at once if needed, or can be leveraged for your game design.

North Austin Playtesting

Dragon's Lair Austin

Bring a game you're working on, or just come by to playtest! Game designers will pitch their games and we'll decide as a group how we'd like to structure the evening's session. GAME DESIGNERS Please be ready to briefly pitch what you're working on - what the game's about and what you're hoping to learn from the playtest. Examples: "I brought a worker-placement game set in the primordial ooze. I just added an auction mechanic to determine who leads each round, and I need to see how it works." // "I'm working on an engine-building race game about wizard-piloted zeppelins, and I want to focus on the opening phase of the game." PLAYTESTERS After designers pitch their games, find one that has an open slot and sounds like a good use of your time. You'll likely have the opportunity to test two or even three games in an evening.

South Austin Playtesting

2110 W Slaughter Ln

We will be meeting monthly on the 4th Saturday of each month, space permitting at Junior's Comics in south Austin. PLAYTESTERS are more then welcome.
