1 PM START Tour de Southern Walnut Creek Trail
Start time changed to 1 PM Note: construction on Hwy 183 southbound may impact travel time. A moderate C-pace ride (roughly 11 to 14 mph) on The Southern Walnut Creek Trail from the trailhead at Govalle Park to the Abrupt End and return. Round trip is about 20 miles. The trail is paved for the entire distance, with a 1/2 mile hill on the outbound. We'll regroup at the top of the hill on the outbound and at the Abrupt End. The return is mostly downhill. The trail is two-way and narrows down in spots, with a couple of blind corners. Single-file riding and moderate speed on the corners is strongly recommended! There are two significant road intersections that require caution to cross. This ride is cross-posted to Bike Austin. A map of Govalle Park's location is at http://austinparks.org/parks/govalle-park/ Bring water, a snack, a spare bicycle tire tube, and tools to fix a flat. Riders will sign a liability waiver at the ride start and must wear a helmet. There are no restrooms on the trail itself. There are restrooms at Govalle Park and at the Austin Tennis Center, about 1/3 mile off the trail. Optional coffee afterwards at Sa-Ten Cafe, 916 Springdale Road Suite 110. This ride is crossposted to the Bike Austin website. • What to bring helmet, water/sports drink, tools to fix a flat, spare inner tube, snack(optional) • Important to know Riders will sign a waiver.

What we're about

Welcome to AustinCyclingMeetup.com, your friendly neighborhood "low key" recreational cycling group!

Austin Cycling Meetup group is not a hard core anything. We're a little bit road warriors, a little bit social cyclists, and a whole lot community builders. We all just love riding our bikes and want friends to ride with.

Most of our regular calendar meetups are South Austin/Westlake/Bee Cave/Lakeway routes. And due to the desire for variety and the members that have joined us we also venture to Dripping Springs, Parmer Road, Pflugerville and the surrounding hill country for charity rides. So we're kind of all over Austin!

If you're nervous about riding because you just learned where to place your feet on the pedals, no worries. Most of our rides are no drop and we're happy to have an excuse to stop and chat at the top of that hill waiting on the others. Chances are next time around it will be one of us.

And equally true that if you want to kick it, we have century riders that will ride out front with you or add some extra miles/hills with you. We're really all about the fun, building our skills and the chance to stay fit. We truly have all levels of riders.

BEFORE YOU JOIN A RIDE: please take a moment to read the road safety rules of our club (http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Cycling-Meetup/pages/Our_Cycling_Safety_Principles_%28PLEASE_READ%29/). We follow Austin Cycling Association protocols. If you're not sure about your ride level, please read this description (http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Cycling-Meetup/pages/About_our_riding_group_levels/) of our ride levels before you join us. Or contact me by email.

Mountain bikers that prefer trail rides, please meander over the Austin Mountain Biking Meetup and join Ken Sinclair's group. We regularly welcome mountain bikers on our road rides and social rides, but no longer host trail rides since our member Ken is doing such a bang up job there.

Check out our photo albums for proof of just how much fun you'll have riding with us. Check those nerves about your riding skills, equipment, or style right at the end of your driveway and come on!

Let's roll!
