What we're about

Welcome to Austin Cycling Meetup, your friendly neighborhood "low key" recreational cycling group!

Austin Cycling Meetup group is not a hard core anything. We're a little bit road warriors, a little bit social cyclists, and a whole lot community builders. We all just love riding our bikes and want friends to ride with.

Most of our regular calendar meetups are South Austin/Westlake/Bee Cave/Lakeway routes. And due to the desire for variety and the members that have joined us we also venture to Dripping Springs, Parmer Road, Pflugerville and the surrounding hill country for charity rides. So we're kind of all over Austin!

If you're nervous about riding because you just learned where to place your feet on the pedals, no worries. Most of our rides are no drop and we're happy to have an excuse to stop and chat at the top of that hill waiting on the others. Chances are next time around it will be one of us.

And equally true that if you want to kick it, we have century riders that will ride out front with you or add some extra miles/hills with you. We're really all about the fun, building our skills and the chance to stay fit. We truly have all levels of riders.

BEFORE YOU JOIN A RIDE: please take a moment to read the road safety rules of our club (http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Cycling-Meetup/pages/Our_Cycling_Safety_Principles_%28PLEASE_READ%29/). Helmets required, no headphones or boomboxes please, be hyper-aware of vehicle traffic, obey traffic laws and be prepared to yield. If you pass another cyclist, "On your left/right!" We follow Austin Cycling Association protocols. If you're not sure about your ride level, please read this description (http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Cycling-Meetup/pages/About_our_riding_group_levels/) of our ride levels before you join us. Or contact me by email, or my cell: 512-413-7001

If you want to post a ride please let me know. The only requirement is that standard safety rules are followed: Helmets required, no headphones or boomboxes please, be hyper-aware of vehicle traffic, obey traffic laws and be prepared to yield. If you pass another cyclist, "On your left/right!" Any responsible cyclist can become a ride leader and we would like to see Bike Austin and other local organizations post their rides here.

Please help us by respecting the RSVP process. We will miss you if there is a change of plans and you can not attend. Please cancel and we hope to see you next week!

Mountain bikers that prefer trail rides, please meander over the Austin Mountain Biking Meetup and join Ken Sinclair's group. We regularly welcome mountain bikers on our road rides and social rides, but no longer host trail rides since our member Ken is doing such a bang up job there.

Check out our photo albums for proof of just how much fun you'll have riding with us. Check those nerves about your riding skills, equipment, or style right at the end of your driveway and come on!

Let's roll!

Novice & Intermediate Group levels. Nov 14-15 AVG, Int 16-18 AVG. Please know we love having new people join us and we run the same route for 1 month. There are multiple distance and store stop options. Brought to you by Cyclingswami.com (http://www.cyclingswami.com/) RULES: Helmets required. You will not be allowed to ride without one. Road bikes recommended. Other types of bikes are allowed, but a road bike is the best option for this ride. No headphones while riding. This is a safety issue. Wearing headphones makes it difficult to hear traffic or safety commands. We ask that if you bring a friend, you look after them. This is now a drop ride, and it is not the responsibility of the ride leader(s) to keep track of any one person who is unable to stay with the group. No use of aero bars in the group. If your bike has them, please be respectful of the safety of other riders and only use the aero bars when you are riding off the front or back of the group. It is unsafe to draft while using aero bars. Please have supplies. Please carry 2 tubes that fit your wheels and a frame pump or CO2 cartridges, two full water bottles, and make sure your bike is in great working order. ROUTES: This is a 50-mile route with 2 store stops and we will regroup as needed. There will also be 30 - mile and 40 - mile routes out and same wayback. Planned routes and stops are subject to change based on road conditions, weather, and preferences of the group. A limited number of maps and cue sheets may be available at the start, but you are encouraged to print your own from the links below. You will need to be an mapmyride MVP member to print the cues from the links, but you can copy and paste them into another program if needed. the shorter routes will use the same route out and just turn around at the stops. If you have any questions, please ask on meetup.

"Random Ramble" from Don's Automotive --every two weeks. WINTER HOURS

The Walnut Creek Trail ride is now every two weeks alternating with this ride. We meet at Don's Automotive and then form a consensus of somewhere fun to go that is NOT the Walnut Creek Trail. Great as it is, it is getting old. We could go south on Emerald Forest through Longview park and back through Sunset Valley. It could be NW and etc. Lots of neat places to go. Daunting hills or relatively flat determined by consensus. We WILL avoid hazardous roads. No drop, of course. Come join us for 25 miles + or - of great company and good riding. Don's phone: five-one-two-4l3, seven oo 1. Thanks from Don and Gayla.

Circle C Cruise WINTER HOURS -- 1:00 PM

Dick Nichols District Park

We will meet before 1:00 PM, wheels down 1:00 PM, at Dick Nichols Park for about two hours of casual rambling around SW Austin. Gary knows the area like the back of his hand.
