What we're about

• This group is for everyone interested in Honky Tonk, Outlaw Country, and Rockabilly music, vintage and retro events. We will be going to see and dance to a variety of honky tonk, rockabilly, outlaw country, country swing, east and west coast swing, surf guitar, garage bands and more. You’re welcome to sit back and listen, or dancing your boots off. Yep, dancing as in Two Steppin and country swing (lessons too). And yes that’s outlaw country, no country pop here. We will also check out Hot Rod shows, festivals, and private parties.

• Click on the "Join Now" link, fill out couple profile questions, and add a profile pic that show your face (this is required to join).

• There many of the best honky tonks in the state are right here in Austin, from The Broken Spoke, to The Little Long Horn (Ginny's), to the White Horse, Old Coupland Dance Hall, and so many more, we'll eventually hit them all. See our Honky Tonk Info and Club listing page at http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Honky-Tonk-Rockabilly/pages/Honky_Tonk_and_Club_Listing/

• We have weekly events with dance lessons at the White Horse on Saturday evening and at The Little Longhorn on Tuesdays. Other events are usually scheduled a week or two in advance, but be sure to keep your eye on the calendar as there often one or two last minute events that seem to pop up every month.

• If you're not a dancer but want to learn we'll have plenty of "learn to" opportunities at local honky tonks and a directory of private instructors. http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Honky-Tonk-Rockabilly/pages/Dance_Lessons/

• We have a few ground rules they're pretty simple: http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Honky-Tonk-Rockabilly/pages/Austin_Honky_Tonk_n_Rockabilly_Group_Ground_Rules/

Two Step Lesson and Dave Insley at The White Horse

The White Horse Honky Tonk

Wanna learn to Two Step? TwoAustin Honky Tonkers provides a Two Step dance lesson at The White Horse on Saturdays. This is a beginner-beginner lesson with plenty of work on the basic step, leading and following, a basic turn, and the best styling. Lesson starts at 7:00. After the lesson at 8:00, Dave Insley and the Careless Smokers band will play for your dancing pleasure. Don't worry about bringing a partner, they pair people up during the lesson and rotate partners throughout the lesson. It's a great way to meet a bunch of people and after the lesson there's a bunch of people to dance with to the band and practice what you just learned. There's lots of beginners so you'll be in good company for dancing. No cover before the lesson, $5 cover later, also bring a little extra cash for tipping - $5 suggested donation for the dance lesson. Parking on the street. Check the signs for paid street parking, pay at kiosks and put tag in the window. Arrive early to give yourself plenty of time to find parking and enjoy a cold beverage. Cheap PBR in cans and on tap. FYI - Free parking on Comal St just north of 7th Street next to the cemetery. Bonus - if you ask the ghosts nicely they'll watch your car for you. REPEATED EVENT: Lots of folks asked to list a weekly dance lesson again in our recent survey. So we’ll be posting this lesson on most Saturdays and will usually have a host, but if not that's no reason y'all should miss out on a great lesson. We will be booking other events on Saturdays as well. Do one, or do both! Where to meet: Between the end of the bar and sound booth - that's where the cool kids hang out http://www.thewhitehorseaustin.com/
