What we're about

We are a community of compassion and reason, celebrating the human experience through opportunities for continued learning and meaningful work. Our core values define our community and help shape our interactions with each other, society, and the world:

We provide engaging talks on Sunday mornings (some say they're similar to TedTalks), weekly community groups, opportunities for volunteering, socials, and fun Austin events! We hope these get-togethers provide a space for learning and introspection, relationship building, personal development, and opportunities for doing good in our local community.

Sunday Gathering: A Humanist Community of Compassion and Reason

Spider House Ballroom

~ Weekly attendance is approximately 35 people ~ This week's meeting topic: Stuff. We are buried in stuff and under constant pressure to buy more. It's time to talk about all this stuff. Where it comes from. What it really costs. What you can do to have your stuff and be ethical. Using the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), let's consider the ethics of stuff--especially the stuff we have in our closets--from beginning to end. Speaker: Carolyn A. Parker, PhD, Ethical Society of Austin Dr. Carolyn A. Parker is an ethical humanist, come late to the community but long holding the beliefs and values that led her, finally, to the Ethical Society of Austin. She is an activist, with experience in advocacy at local, state, and national levels. Her education gave her a background in the liberal arts and social science, supporting her work in teaching, writing, and organizational management with an international perspective. Music: Bombastic rhythm and acoustic blues twosome, The Texassippi Two are six-string outlaws, armed with soulful grooves, piercing lyrical ammo and lethal harmonies all fired off with a wink and a shot of whisky. The tunesmiths seesaw from deft songwriting craftsmans in the studio to effortless showmen on the stage. Their tempo and key changes keep you guessing, while the melodic prose will keep you hooked.
