Joseph Serrato saxophone
Jacob Wise guitar
Stefano Intelisano piano

Joseph Serrato grew up knowing he would be a musician. He wanted to follow his father’s footsteps as a saxophonist and bandleader. After attending the University of North Texas, he moved to Austin to pursue his career.

For the last 25 years, he has been one the city’s busiest musicians. He has played with several of the scene’s top bands and toured with international artists.

Monks is a listening room where audience members witness the music in intimate surroundings. There is a $20 cover. Since drinks aren't sold at Monks, audience members can bring their own cooler with beverages and glasses.

Monks also showcases a state of the art live stream.
Links for purchasing ticket and watching the live stream will be in the Comments section below.
I will be reserving a table for all ALJMeetup attendees.

Each band member either runs their own group or is a top call in of their instrument in the Austin area. In the case of Collin Shook he is the force behind Monks Jazz Club. All contribute wonderful original compositions to the band.

Dr. Adrian Ruiz is active as a freelance trumpeter, performing regularly throughout the state of Texas. In February 2021, he received a Grammy nomination in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category for Live at the Paramount with the Ruthie Foster Big Band.

Dr. Ruiz has performed internationally at the Montreux, North Sea, and Taichung Jazz Festivals. In addition to his performance schedule, Dr. Ruiz has presented clinics and performances at the Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference, the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA) Conventions. He has served as an adjudicator at band contests, jazz festivals, and has presented masterclasses at various school districts throughout San Antonio and Austin.

In May 2017, Ruiz made his recording debut as a leader, releasing his first full length album entitled Premiere: A Collection Of Originals. Scott Yanow, acclaimed jazz journalist/historian and author, states the following concerning Premiere: "Adrian Ruiz is an impressive trumpeter who makes his recording debut as a leader on 'Premiere: A Collection Of Originals' In addition to being a fine showcase [it] is a fun set of creative jazz that is easily recommended."

Dr. Ruiz received his Bachelor of Music Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Master of Music from Texas State University, and Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Trumpet Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. Ruiz currently serves as the Director of Jazz Bands at St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin, TX.

By reading this you are a member of Austin Live Jazz Meetup. Some ALJMeetup members are also Austin Jazz Society members. Austin Jazz Society members pay an annual membership fee and therefore pay a reduced price at these Chez Zee monthly events. If you are not an Austin Jazz Society member expect to pay the nonmember $20 fee. If you wish to become an AJS member you can contact me or go to the AJS website. I write this to avoid any future confusion.

With our return to safer conditions, AJS is returning to single performances at full capacity at Chez Zee. Seating will be a mixture of tables and chairs. The restaurant will be serving brunch from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.

I will be working in the front entrance area so try to get my attention. I will attempt to secure a table or seats for Meetup attendees
