What we're about

Hello Austin!

This is a group for developers who want to learn about and build scalable decentralized applications. We typically have a mix of educational content, hands-on workshops, hack days, hackathons, tech talks, and deep dives.

Basically, we’ll talk about code and we’ll write code.

You might have experience working with existing blockchains or you might be coming fresh from more standard web or mobile development areas. It actually doesn’t matter -- NEAR smart contracts are written in TypeScript so you won’t find it difficult to pick up.

What is NEAR Protocol anyway? NEAR is a highly scalable, developer-friendly blockchain and smart contract platform. You might be familiar with Ethereum, EOS, Tron etc… NEAR is the next generation beyond these platforms. You can learn all about it at The Beginner's Guide to the NEAR Blockchain, which also contains plenty of resources for digging deeper: https://medium.com/nearprotocol/the-beginners-guide-to-the-near-blockchain-62f1c739e098

We'd love to have you join us!

Decentralized App Development Workshop

Needs a location

Are you excited to roll up your sleeves and see what it’s like to develop decentralized apps? This online workshop will give you a chance to learn how to do this and then try it out yourself. See the “To sign up” section below for information on how to join. NEAR is a highly scalable, developer-friendly blockchain and smart contract platform that leads the next generation of platforms in both usability and scalability. It’s designed to give “normal” developers an easy way to create composable decentralized applications. In this fully online workshop (so you can join from home!), we'll provide an accessible introduction to NEAR for both technical and nontechnical audiences. We'll discuss what NEAR actually does and how its focus on scalability and developer-friendliness makes it a new kind of smart contract platform for creating decentralized applications. Then we’ll roll up our sleeves, fire up the online text editor and collectively create a handful of smart contracts. You’ll be able to get as deep into the code as you want but anyone, even nontechnical people, will be able to follow along. The goal is simple: give you a fun taste of what it’s like to build blockchain-based apps so you can start exploring more on your own. After we’re done, we’ll show you how to dig deeper into the ecosystem and turn this small taste into a full-fledged feast. ## To sign up: You'll need to register for the online-only event at: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_K_E0Wvx4TU6HV4j0JzsR5A This will make sure you can join on time, will allow you to ask questions during the presentation and let you follow along with the code on-screen. ## The workshop is aimed at: + Anyone who is curious about blockchains -- as users, investors, designers or entrepreneurs + Developers who want to learn how blockchain development works and why it's an interesting frontier + Existing blockchain developers who want to see how the next generation of blockchains will make your life as a developer (and the lives of your users) significantly better than the previous ones. ## Agenda: We'll start nontechnical and then give everyone a chance to get your hands dirty with some code (whether you're a developer or not). + Introduction + Why blockchain? + About NEAR and why it's different + Demo: How to quickly build composable decentralized applications + Interactive: Deploy a smart contract in 30 seconds ## Next steps: Are you curious to learn more about NEAR or get started playing sooner? The best place to start is by reading the plain-English Beginner's Guide to the NEAR blockchain at https://medium.com/nearprotocol/the-beginners-guide-to-the-near-blockchain-62f1c739e098. There are tons of resources to help you more at the end of this. If you just want to dive into the community and talk to the core team, join our Discord channel at http://www.near.chat If you want to start playing with code, view the docs at https://docs.nearprotocol.com or dive into the web-based IDE at https://studio.nearprotocol.com. If you're already deep into blockchain development and want to have a more substantial conversation about how to build your app as a launch partner of NEAR's, reach out directly to [masked].
