Lake Travis Cleanup

Details

Details Help clean up the Lake Travis shore area. (Divers are also needed to pick up under water. The Diving activities are not sponsored by the Sierra Club.) This is an annual community service event to help clean up parks in the Lake Travis area. This is a great event! A little community service, free T shirt, free lunch, and a raffle for chances at prizes. You should bring gloves, since you are picking up trash. I'll have trash bags. After a couple of hours we will head over for a volunteer party. We need to get done before 11. This year the party is at The Oasis (http://www.oasis-austin.com/), which is great as we are close by. You will get a free T Shirt, free lunch and a raffle ticket (either Diver or Shore category) for chances at numerous prizes. Part of the group will be Scuba Diving to help clear some trash out of our beloved Lake Travis. Scuba Diving segment is an unofficial part of event. If you are diving: You MUST BE A CERTIFIED DIVER, we are not offering any lessons or refreshers. You MUST PROVIDE ALL YOUR GEAR, I will only have trash bags to distribute. You WILL NOT DIVE ALONE, we will pair up and if we have an odd number; there will be a group of three. I suggest a dive light if you have one since the visibility will not be great and you need to keep track of your dive buddy(s). Gloves would be a good idea since we are picking up trash. Most of the trash is in less than 30 feet of water so this is not a deep dive. This is an early Sunday morning event. We will meet for a little direction at first, pair up, distribute trash bags. Please register early as there is a deadline and check this site often for updates. Put in the comments if you are Cleaning the Shore or a Diver. I'm running this with other groups as well. Register here on the meetup and be sure to register at: https://laketraviscleanup.org/rm_submissions/bob-wentz-at-windy-point-shoreline-preregistration/ This is where you specify your T Shirt size and specify shore or diver. it also helps them prepare the lunch. Directions: From Loop 360, go west on RM 2222. At the intersection of RM 2222 and RR620, take RR620 south 1.3 miles to Comanche Trail. Turn right and travel 3.1 miles. Park entrance will be on the left. How to find me: When you go through the gate continue forward and go through a second gate (I think it's labeled 5A) that goes a couple of hundred yards down to the boat ramp. There is a bathroom structure down there and some picnic tables. We are based there. My cell is 512-299-1398. The other groups will be in the close in parking lot. That's not us! We will meet in the park before 9:00, have a little meeting, fill out liability release forms, and pick up bags, before you fan out to pick up trash. Let me know if you have any questions. Pay attention to the times. Remember: BRING GLOVES, garden gloves are fine, even for divers. BRING GLOVES!!
