PRESENTATION: IPCC's New Reports - Really Bad News, But New Scenarios Hold Great Promise
Bruce Melton, Director of Climate Change Now, will present a review of the new IPCC reports on the most recent climate science, the standard 1.5 C (2.7 F) warming target, risks we face, actions we must take, and new scenarios gaining momentum in core science and policy that are based on a restoration warming target. This restoration target cools Earth back to withing our Earth's systems evolutionary boundaries that ,depending on the system, is a temperature of between 0.5 C (0.9 F) and 1.0 C (1.8 F) above normal, where we are at or above 1.0 degree C warming today. This new scenario concept is embodied in national Sierra Club's new ground breaking climate policy of a warming target of "less than 1.0 degree C." What this presentation will focus upon is these evolutionary boundaries and climate tipping, how IPCC addresses tipping and implications for further warming to 1.5 C or beyond.
Bruce Melton is a professional engineer with 37 years of experience in critical environmental issues. He is a researcher, filmmaker, education specialist, author, and director of the Climate Change Now Initiative founded in 2005. He has written over 500 reviews of academic climate science and directly caused Sierra Club to lower their warming target to "less than 1.0 degrees C above normal." ACTION TEAMS: Discuss Action Teams and allow people to sign up to continue the work to stop climate change, an imperative if we want our current civilization to survive. We’ve formed Action Teams on Austin Energy, the Permian Pipeline, Rio Grande Valley Support, Carbon Fee & Dividend, People Power, Data Entry, and Presentations and more. We have identified additional action teams we’d like to form, including Transportation, Climate Justice, Partner Organizations, School Education, and Social Media. Whether you have only minutes a month or hours a day, join us to build a mass movement to stop climate change. Or join another group fighting this vital cause.
