6:30-7:15 or 7:30 - Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP) Forest Restoration - Intro & Historical Ecology of the Texas Hill Country
Lisa O'Donnell, BCP Biologist, will answer questions after we present the first webinar (recorded) in their Forest Restoration Series. (We have a new platform to share videos, W2G.com, that we are very excited about and that so far has operated seamlessly with one click. We will provide instructions and a link before Lisa's Presentation.) The webinar blurb is below. We will be presenting the next two parts live at our next two meetings with other speakers, and we are looking forward to seeing you all!
"For this first webinar of the series, BCP biologist Jim O’Donnell will
introduce the Forest Restoration Series and BCP biologist Lisa O’Donnell will present Historical Ecology of the Texas Hill Country. Managing and restoring habitat for endangered species begins with an understanding of how past events and natural processes have shaped our present-day ecosystems (and perceptions). We will explore the ecological history of the Texas Hill Country, along with the common myth that the Hill Country was originally an extensive grassland. We will review historical documents within the context of major historical events, ecoregions, and the Balcones Escarpment, a geologic fault zone that separates the Blackland Prairie from the Hill Country. We will then take a closer look at the history of the Vireo Preserve, a 214-acre tract within the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, over the last century. A written report of the Historical Ecology presentation is available here.
7:15 or 7:30 to8:00 Climate Change Committee Meeting - Discuss Action Teams and allow people to sign up to continue the work to stop climate change, an imperative if we want our current civilization to survive. We’ve formed Action Teams on Austin Energy, the Permian Pipeline, Rio Grande Valley Support, Carbon Fee & Dividend, People Power, Data Entry, and Presentations and more. We have identified additional action teams we’d like to form, including Transportation, Climate Justice, Partner Organizations, School Education, and Social Media. Whether you have only minutes a month or hours a day, join us to build a mass movement to stop climate change. Or join another group fighting this vital cause.
