What is your interest in Wellness?

I am vitally interested in wellness and have built The Human Potential Center around the concept. Treating illness only gets a person up to a state of survival; in order to thrive (and create a better world around us) we need to get beyond mere survival and start focusing on what Abraham Maslow calls "the farther reaches of human nature."

If you are a wellness oriented professional, what is your profession?

I'm founder and Executive Director of The Human Potential Center. I lead workshops on wellness (two of my particular favorites are "How to be Assertive and Loving Too" and "Building Sound Self-Esteem") and also work with clients individually in "Personal Growth Sessions" to help them create the kind of life they want. These sessions usually focus on either relationships or careers, though we can work on anything the client wants to.

What have you done for yourself today to promote your state of wellbeing?

I normally run every other day, but today I decided to go out on the Center's property and pull weeds for an hour and a half, which was a lot of exercise too! Then I showered and meditated, did some work while listening to some relaxing music, and plan on having some healthy stir fry for dinner. One of the great things about being Executive Director is that I can set my own schedule so it includes time for exercise, meditation and relaxation (though I have to admit I may be a bit better at the first two than the third!).

Glad to find out about this group! I've been working in the wellness field since long before I founded The Human Potential Center here in Austin 25 years ago. There is way too much focus on treating illness rather than improving health!
