Austin Geeks and Gamers - November Newsletter

Howdy my fellow geeks and gamers!

Welcome to our November newsletter. (Please forgive that it’s a few days late, but I was busy recovering from volunteering for “Scare for a Cure”, then celebrating my birthday during the weekend of November 4!)

November is the month of Thanksgiving. I want to give thanks to our sponsors who have helped us run so many special fun events and stay financially afloat. I want to thank our event organizers for hosting more fun games and other geek events than I could ever personally attend. And most of all, I want to thank all of you who have come out to our meetups and become part of our community.

I also want to share one more special thanks to everybody who came out to this year’s “Scare for a Cure” interactive adventure - “Return to Mutant Wasteland”. We sold out our last two weekends, and raised thousands of dollars for the Breast Cancer Resource Center. (Exact amount still being tallied…)

In addition to Scare for a Cure, our past few weeks also included:

  • Our October Social at Pinballz Lake Creek on October 4.
  • Geekgasm Revue and the Chamber of Sequins”, Russ Argo’s Harry Potter themed nerdlesque at Sherlock’s on October 17
  • Game for the Cause”, on Friday and Saturday, October 20-21, raising money for SafePlace
  • Our November Light Game Night and Social at Nerdstock.
  • Thor: Ragnarok” movie night and social on November 3

Some of the upcoming events for November include:

  • Wizard World Comic-Con”, the weekend of November 17-19. Guests include Sean Maher, Jewel Staite, Summer Glau, Jason Momoa, Felicia Day, and Michael Rooker. Our members also get a 20% discount!
  • Justice League” movie night and social on Friday, November 17.
  • .… plus our regular Werewolf games, Sunday “Magic: The Gathering” games, Nerd Nite, “Geeks Who Drink” pub quiz at Mister Tramps, and board game night at Wonko’s.

As I start looking forward to the new year, and how we can continue to improve our meetup in 2018, I have a question to ask of you. Do we have too much of a good thing? Do we have too many events on our calendar? Is it getting hard to spot the really cool events that interest you amidst the ones you don’t really care about? If so, please let me know – Drop me a private message here on meetup, or email me (johanntx (at) gmail (dot) com). What kinds of events most interest you? What do you not want to miss out on? And what events do you just skip over? Thanks in advance for helping me prune and shape our meetup to meet your geekish interests.

Remember - If you really want to stay up to date, join our ongoing discussions and posts in our Facebook group, at . Or just check the meetup calendar at . I hope to see you at an event soon. Until then…
